Default 96 EX 2.2 bogs under load

Im stumped on whats going on. Ran fine, came back out 15 mins later and this started. Car has no power when taking off. seems fine right when you let the clutch out, but lacks normal power then really falls after 2000rpm. idles fine, revs to 5500 just fine in N or clutch in(obviously). driving it its smooth just not fast. basically feels normal as if I were only hitting the gas with slight preassure but its full throttle. No codes....any ideas?

Thanks
Dan

THE FIX WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER!!!!!!!!!!

could be a few things. sounds like a plug wire popping on and off. check ur plugs or change them. cheap and efficient gas fix also. also check distributor and cap and coil. if those dont work u need to run through things. check vac hoses etc. and best thing of all is seafoam. do it correctly, lil in gas and lil in brake booster hose will always clean up and make a car run like a fine machine.

Recent fill up? Bad fuel? Sudden onset of running problems can sometimes point to that.

Op, the problem you speak of sounds the same as my problem. I haven't figured it out yet. Its only happened once last week. When my problem started, the car didn't want to accelerate past 5mph. Luckily I came to a stop light and all was normal. Not sure if mine is related to bad fuel filter. I posted my problem a few weeks back and it was suggessted to be related to my tranny.

finally got my scanner on it. seems the ECT and MAP voltage is low. would this cause this problem?

where is the ECT sensor?

Mine will keep accelerating. and its so smooth just as if it was made to be a very very slow car.starts, idles and revs amazing. everything seems fine except the lack of power. mine is a manual, so I dont know if this could be a cause. I would suspect a torque converter but yeah.

I tend not to lean too far close to the tc or tranny because it hasn't returned yet. I'm keeping tabs on it and hopefully it won't be a complete disaster since it does have 229k on the chassis.

mine has 233K.

Well ill be damned it was a clogged cat. what lead me away from the cat was it was replaced before.... well I wouldnt doubt it was a used cat from a different car the way some things are on this beast. but its been good especially for $800

so since I hate when people post problems and never come back and say what the solution is after they fix it.

The catalytic converter was the culprit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
