remote start??
i was lookin at this alarm that had a remote start feature... is it possible to use in a manual tranny? how would it start with out the clutch in?? thanks
The COMPUSTAR is also able to start a manual tranny vehicle safely. IF INSTALLED PROPERLY, the CompuStar will keep your engine running when you engage your Parking Brake. At that time you can turn your key off and take it out, the steering wheel is now locked. The Engine stays running because of the CompuStar. When you and your passengers exit the vehicle, and all doors are Shut, .... the CompuStar shuts down the engine. Now the car is ready to remote start next time, just as long as no one opens any door while the car is parked and engine is off. The car will be armed and locked anyway, but as a safety feature, if anyone opens any door, whether the alarm is on or off, it will NOT remotely start the next time you try. The car and your remote will respond with 3 beeps.
Who ever thought of this software and idea was THINKING. What the CompuStar is doing, is making sure you leave your car with the key in hand the engine running. BECAUSE HOW COULD YOU LEAVE THE DRIVER SEAT WITH THE CAR IN GEAR AND THE ENGINE RUNNING????? YOU CANT!!!! The system makes you prove you have engaged the Parking brake, left it in NEUTRAL, and left the car while the Engine was running. NEAT IDEA huh??
I demostrate the CompuStar in a stick shift vehicle everyday. People are amazed!! You need to see in person.
Ive seen many attempts of installers installing remote starters not intended for manual tranny vehicles......that's a dangerous lawsuit waiting to happen.
Ive also seen many CompuStar's installed on a stick shift car incorrectly. That's also dangerous and makes the CompuStar look bad. It usually comes from inexperienced installers and dealers who are not authorized.
I would say about 75% of the CompuStar's that are installed by Hand Command Inc. are in stick shift vehicles. That manual tranny capability, is one of the many features ( along with killer 2 way range) that keeps the CompuStar apart from the crowd.

see remote start for winter post on this same page...
If you dont use an alarm/module specifically for remote start you must consider gearing position, ebrake, a possible override switch and a clutch bypass circuit.
