1991 Honda Accord 5-Speed Manual. The car has noisy valves like all of these cars now, but when I hold the rpms steady around 2000 it starts to make make a weird sound. It kind of sounds like a scratchy knocking sound, and while it does this the engine seems to miss. While its doing this you can feel the engine shake. What could it be?

I was thinking maybe spark knock.

 

Only once warm?.....I know you have done a ton of things to the car, was one of those cleaning the egr ports....under the plugs in the intake runners.

 

Have someone check to see if the "knock" is coming from to top or bottom of the engine. Could be rod knock if it's coming from the bottom.

 

^ could be something as simple as valves need to be adjusted or something as major as rod bearing

 

It does it all the time and it is bad around 1200 rpms but once it gets above that it is just ticking. How would I clean the EGR and what would this problem in the rpm range mean to you? The car still has all of its power.

 

Ok here is the best way I can put the sound. Under load like taking off or driving slow in a high gear it will start to sound like a diesel. So if that helps diagnose it thanks.

I also have clutch chatter is there anyway it could be flywheel?
