Default Racing seat belt harness necessary?

Car is a 98 Civic EX with OEM Si seats. Most of the interior is stock as of right now, but I've been looking at getting an aftermarket steering wheel and passenger airbag delete tray. Since I will be eliminating the air bags, should I look into getting some harness style seat belts to increase safety? Or do those even make a difference? I'm not sure if they will work with factory seats either.

Personally, I wouldn't even think about running harness' without having a roll bar installed. That's just me, but it's your "safety", not mine.

no the harness is actually unsafe for daily use stock belts are fine

you should swap those Si seats for some integra GSR seats its like 1000+ better than the stock Civic seats i bet if you throw them up for a 150 dollars some kid will ****** them up fast cause it says civic SI seats

If you get harnesses, they need to be DOT approved or you can get a seatbelt ticket if you aren't wearing the OEM seatbelt also. Weird, but it's the law.

Unless you have a roll cage and are wearing a helmet full-time in your car, a race harness is more dangerous than a 3 point seat belt.

The 3 point is designed to push you to the middle of the car and down when the car rolls in an accident. With a 4 point harness, if you roll the car you're just going to get your spine broken in 15 places.

Agreed with of the the above.

Someone pulled in front of me once and I hit them at 60mph and then a pole. My stock seat belt did just fine.

Hah that's funny because I have a couple people in my area that want my seats if I ever decide to part out my car.

How much does a passenger airbag delete and a steering wheel with no airbag take away from the safety of the car? I'm a very cautious driver, and I usually drive pretty slow everywhere. I want to get a s2k steering wheel so I can have an airbag, but they're hard to find/expensive.

I think racing seats are uncomfortable for everyday driving anyway.

Not quite. You can stick a 22 ohm resistor I believe into the plug and reset the system. The resistor will trick he SRS system into thinking there's an airbag.

It doesn't matter how careful you are, there are always idiots on the road you have no control over.

This It doesn't matter how careful you are or how 'slow' you drive, there are millions of other idiots out on the road.

In the end, you're going to do what you want... I don't have air bags in my car, yet the car isn't a daily driver like yours seems to be. And I've had the whole harness/roll bar/recaro seat setup in an old car that was also not a daily driver, but taking it out and driving it around town on nice days/to meets SUCKED (especially in traffic) being in a harness (if you're wearing it properly) and in the summer, would get hot as hell without AC.

BINGO! At mimimun you need a harness bar.

Not having air bags isn't even that dangerous to begin with, true, they can save you, but they can also **** your *** up. My cousin has a permanit burn mark on her arm becuase of her air bag.

The stock belts are more then capable of holding you in.

Just becuase you drive slow, and pay attention doesn't mean crap. You have to be looking around, and prepared to avoid some **** head who isn't paying attention.

Also driving slow isn't the best thing in the world.

Anyone who thinks airbags or seatbelts are dangerous only think so because they have cuts/bruises from seatbelts and airbags.

Like in economics, it is important and impossible to consider or anticipate the unseen. You might have a cut on your shoulder from the seatbelt or a bruise on your face from the airbag, but the unseen is where you aren't ejected 40ft out of your car and into the nearest tree with 12 broken bones and a compressed spine.

Well for the most part I'm very cautious when I drive, always keeping an eye on my surroundings, never been in an accident besides hitting a deer in my buddies car. I also never really drive fast or do any of that top speed ****, usually keep it under 60, 70 on the interstate. So if I was to get in an accident it probably wouldn't be too bad. I think I'm going to go ahead and take them out.

IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW GOOD OF A DRIVER OR CAUTIOUS YOU ARE.

There is always someone on the road who is not, who doesn't care, or just not paying attention to what they are doing.

if you really want an aftermarket stearing wheel, do it. It's your call.
You could always do a RSX wheel, and keep both bags. if you remove the driver side airbag, you might as well pull the passenger side, as it wont be doing anything for you.

keep it stock.

harnesses should only be used in conjunction race seats and a cage.

Your signature makes me LOL, especially since you can't seem to grasp the concept that more than one person has made that... there are OTHER drivers out on the road. But hell, I'm sure if you're sitting at a red light and mommy minivan driver is texting away and yelling at her kids in the back seat, you'd be able to assess the situation as she comes up behind you and be able to avoid it before she rear ended your car at 50mph

Frankly, you're wrong. You don't think most people consider themselves "cautious" or "good drivers?" No one ever thinks they'll get into an accident.

Flawed logic is flawed.
