Default single cam people

I have a y7 turbo, with a greddy td04. pretty clean with vitara pistons and a couple other upgrades. planning to take it to the track starting the new year. since im trying to put some miles on this fresh build before i tune it.

Ive been getting people ask me why i didnt go vtech with a y8 or a z6 or even a mini me swap. I did some reading and just stayed with the y7 because w the turbo its not going to be much of a difference. and that a mini me swap tends to leak. lemme know what you guys think.

yeah, head gasket. i had one before too and changed the dizzy with the harness and everything. but on this car now i just kept it non vtech and just changed the y7 manifold.

i guess my question would be, if two cars had the exact build but one had a mini me swap, would it make a difference if both were turbo?

DO NOT RUN THIS WITHOUT A TUNE! I don't care what your rational is. If you want to break it in then do it on a dyno.

BTW, turbo likes VTEC. Yes there will be a difference. I'll put mine up against yours any day.

X2 on this

And why not run a turbo with VTEC? If you have the option to have it on the car, do it.

well it was tuned before the rebuild. but ok. i have a mini me on it but then picked up a y7 head, took it to the machine shop and kept the y8 manifold. i'll keep it like this for a while. if anything i'll change it back later.

you can acually port a non vtec head out more because there are no oil gallery's running near the ports. they do make more aftermarket cams for the vtec heads then non vtec. vtec on a single cam is not that much to run home to mom about. with a cam and a big port job to a non vtec head would be just as good as a cammed vtec head. ive seen stock for stock turbo builds of non vtec and vtec d series and they both make roughly the same power and it isnt much to gain just having a vtec head. all the non vtec head needs is a better aggressive cam. if the prior tune was on the vtec head and your breaking in the motor i would recommend keeping the motor with the same setup to break it in. do not run it hard unless u have a wide band and know ur tune is running ok.

yeah it had the vtec head last time it was tuned. Now i put on the non vtec head and rebuilt the motor, but running the same tune. I just want to break it in before i tune it again and dont want to tune it untill I have money to get a turbo cam. so i can do it all at once to see how it feels.

R u high on crack... the y7 intake manifold is for fuel efficiency its called a bottleneck for a reason...

Y8

Than dont drive the car or disconnect the turbo from the intake and put a normal filter on it cause youre going to blow sh*t up

It deffinetly DOES NOT have the best flow. There is a reason why poeple swap the y7's IM's for Y8's.

You need to do some research before you post.

I`m interested in what`s going on here. But, I was under the impression the Z6 had the best flow? Or is it different between forced induction and na set-ups?

It might, I don't know.

The y7 manifold, and non-vtec heads are probably two of the worst things honda has ever made.

Both flow terribly.

But you get great gas mileage.

Vtec + Turbo = Awesomeness. The vtec will help the turbo.

the Z6 head flows almost the same exact numbers as the Y8 maybe just a touch more but the Y8 has a swirl-port design on the intake side to help with fuel/ air atomization.
