I'm looking possibly purchase a 99 civic SI that's boosted.

I was hoping to get everyones opinion on the car make sure it's a good deal.

Here are the mods:

Engine:

D16y8 (Recently timing belt, water pump and seals replaced by sterling mccall honda of kingwood)
Greddy turbo kit TD04 15g boosting at 11psi dynoed at 190whp tuned by inline racing. ( installed 5k miles ago )
P28 chipped ECU
310cc precision injectors
2 step colder ngk plugs
TurboXS rofl bov
customed CMS fmic and piping
TurboXS manual boost controller
Mishimoto Radiator, Thermostat and fan switch
Apexi ws2 exhaust with 3inch pipe catback

Interior:

Si cluster
Si seats front and rear
AP2 steering wheel
Derlin shift ****
Password JDM shift boot with yellow stitching
Blox gauge bezel with 2 gauges for AFR and BOOST
Innovative AFR gauge
Auto meter boost gauge carbon fiber

I like the car and I would like to buy it... Asking price is 5500

The car is running stock internals and I was wondering if a stock internal SI can handle the PSI this turbo is producing.

I am assuming you are in canada because the Si did not come with a Single Cam in the United states so you have the USDM EX which would be the canadian Si

here is the answer to your question NO do not buy someone elses project plain and simple buying a already built honda with a turbo is asking for trouble you dont know how the person actually built the car my friend bought a 92 Si B18C turbo beautiful car blew up 3k miles because it wasnt built and tuned right looks may be deceiving

 

Don't buy someone else's project unless you know it's history. Too many people just like you buy something that they just have to have and then they're back here reporting a massive amount of issues that the PO neglected to tell them about. That's my advice.

Just ask they guy if you can take it to your local performance shop or a legit mechanic and get a few test and opinions from them!

Surely he wouldn't mind if he says the car is in good condition!

I think I may pass on this deal.

Kinda scares me that the turbo has only been on the motor for like 5k miles.

I live in Texas.

 

A compression test will at least tell you if the engine is healthy. And 5K is not a long time at all.

 

If you're in Texas and it's a SI, why would there be a y8 swap in it...?? Either it's not a true SI, you (or he) has his engine code wrong, or that dude swapped a motor making less power into the car.

has the car been tuned from a reputable shop or is this on a basemap or what? ask why hes selling the car when he just built the car. if he just turbo's cars and flips them then hes prob just someone just trying to turbo cheap to make a quick buck on a fool. how is it tuned a fmu on stock injectors? a chipped ecu or s300? if its fmu setup its definitely worth passing up! give it a test drive and beat it hard. if it don't make it then he was definitely trying to sell u a poorly tuned pos car and if it blows oh well thats his problem he shouldn't be selling unreliable junk.

 

Yeah, because asking somebody why they are selling a car will get you an honest answer if he is trying to unload a car.

Either OP has his info wrong or the seller of the car is an idiot and I'd stay away from it anyway. American 99/00 SI =/= d16y8

 

I like how everyone on this forum insists on going turbo, or nothing to make power on a D series, yet not to buy a turbo car. So for all of you that went turbo, how are you ever going to sell your cars?

Besides the fact that this car is an SI with an EX engine which I'd avoid anyway. Why can't someone buy a turbo car? How do you know it wasn't done right? The correct answer to buying a car modified or not is to take it to the dealership YES the dealership. They know the car inside and out. You may have to pay up to $120 bux or so but it's worth it.

I don't think you get it. #1. I don't plan on selling it. And #2. You don't buy someone else's project. #3. The dealership doesn't know DICK about modified cars. Especially since there's no one way to turbo a car. #4. Turbo your OWN car. That's pretty much what everybody keeps saying.

If you have to ask a forum of people who have never seen or driven the car an opinion on a modified car... Chances are that you should go to a stealership and buy a new, stock vehicle.
Yeah, since EX and SI fronts are COMPLETELY different. /sarcasm

 

Everybody is telling people to boost their cars not true people ask what they can do to make more horsepower on a D series or a B series... what else can you do than turbo all motor is a waste of money...

and when i boost my cars when it comes time to sell them i usually take my kit off and return the car to stock except the internals that are already built and i have no problems selling my cars i sold my H2B my B20V CRX my prelude all boosted motors and built

most people on here will not sell their cars or most people on here will be smart and make a build thread i know lots of people on here that have sold their cars because of Honda-tech, D-series, k20.org because they make build threads that show their progress

The point is don't buy someones project unless you know the person built a reliable car

yeah i hate when people look for an Si front and all 99-00 have same front end except Si came with a Standard front lip and a mesh grille with an Si logo


and i do not understand why this Si... has a y8 in it... is it a EJ8 or a EM1 check vin

 

The used car marketplace here if full of modified cars. A lot of people end up selling their cars and usually return them back to stock (hiding problems/abuse). Dealerships know a lot more about cars they service/serviced in the past.

When I sold my 03 TL-S the buyer took it to the dealership and had it for over 2hrs with over 200 points of inspection. If you plan on spending money on a car it's worth $120 to have it checked first.

This car being it already has the wrong engine is a no brainer. But if you find a car you are really interested in it's worth it to have it checked extensively.

My plan for the car was buy it and put lower compression pistons on it and Turn boost up a little.

Sounds like I might be better off just buying like a 98 ex and doing my own turbo kit.

 

My advice is to find a stock car and go from there. Start fresh. Plenty of info here to do that.

No matter what, have the car checked out first. Check for accidents (not just carfax) check panels for vin numbers. Check the front and rear frame rails/aprons, pillars and so on.

If you can't afford to have it checked somewhere bring a friend or two with you in case you miss something they may not. At the very least do a compression and leakdown test. Look at the condition of all fluids.

if u ever want a turbo si get it all stock and build it so u know whats goin on on ur car...dont buy somebody's scrap!!!!mahalo...
