Default Car won't start, is it my starter relay?

93 accord LX

The symptoms began when I went to start the car last week, when I turn the key to the ACC position, no light on the cluster. Turned it again and it light up. Been doing that on and off for a week, didn't think much of it.

Yesterday I turn it to ACC, nothing. Turned it back and forth like before no go.

Proceeded to turn the key past ACC to start the car, the car wanted to go, but wouldn't hold the start for more than 1/2 a sec. Turned the key back and forth a few more times, cluster finally light up and car started.

Last time I replaced the starter relay was almost 5yrs ago.

Is it the starter relay gone bad or is it something else?

Battery is also about 5yrs old

Do you think the key switch could be bad......a few simple tests would tell.....key to on/pos II, do you have 12v at the blk/yel wire on the dist......

Test the battery first, then relay, then alternator, then starter. Autozone tests all of them free.

If it's the starter, just get new contacts. Save yourself a lot of money.

(If it's the starter solenoid, get the whole starter.)

hey guys... having a similar problem. my eg wouldnt start yesterday even though my cluster lit up. so i thought it was the starter. i dont hear any clicking either. then i decided to try to jump it to see if it would start, and it actually did. this led me to believe the battery was bad. so i replaced the battery today and still no go.

how do you check the relay to see if its bad?

Start simple....Measure the voltage from the battery to the large cable on the stater....it reads?

Then, have someone try to start the car while you measure the voltage on the "small" wire on the starter...it reads?
