i hav3 a 91 tegg 5spd ls and i plan on changing my tranny oil so now i wanna kno what else is out there thats good to use other then the honda mtf or that syncromesh crap i hear alot of mixed comments from ppl sayin i can use regular 10w30 motor oil or synthetic oil n also gear oil 75w140 so lmk what do ya use in ya trannys thanks to all
never use motor oil especially when you have an abundant amount of options to choose from
here are a few to list
honda mtf
amsoil mtf
redline mtf
pennzoil syncromesh
my personal favorite is amsoil mtf. either of these 4 will make your transmission shift great.

you will need 3 quarts to fill your 2.3 quart transmission.

Depends on the viscosity you buy. 75W-140 gear oil will have about the same viscosity as 10W-30 engine oil.
Gear oil viscosity is tested and rated at a much lower temperature than engine oil, since engine oil gets much hotter in use. That's why gear oil has higher numbers.

Honda MTF has all of those anti-wear additives that are no longer present in engine oil, and it is optimized for use in Honda-design manual transmissions. It is definitely the very best fluid available. Use of Honda MTF will result in the smoothest shifting and the longest internal parts life, including for the seals.
I always use Gear oil it is just whats it is for. I like to know that there is a think layer of protection between the gears unlike the thin oils in ATF and motor oil. I use 75W90 I think 75W140 is too thick it is used for slow gears like catapillars, and things that are slower than highway speeds. But it should be fine I used 75W140 in my supra no problems then.

It used to be that engine oil had a fair amount of zinc/phosphorus additives, which are very effective wear-preventers. With the incoming imposition of OBD-II, and starting around 1993 or 1994, those additives were reduced (not eliminated!) to the point where Honda stopped recommending their use in manual transmissions.

Just spend the 7$ a qt for Honda mtf. That's obviously cheaper than using motor oil and having to spend hundreds of dollars on parts for your tranny when it takes a ****.
i ended up using motor oil and the reason for that is bc back in 91 honda dint have that honda mtf they came out with that like after 1995 or some **** so i ended up with 10w30 motor oil and as of not everything is good
