Default 97 Accord RPM fluctuation issue

I have a 97 Honda Accord SE with a 2.2L SOHC engine.

The issue is with (like stated in the title) RPM fluctuations. The RPM needle begins to move wildly after a certain point of pressing down the accelerator. This usually occurs around 3K RPMs or 75/80 mph. If I don't press the accelerator hard and keep it normal under normal driving conditions, the RPMs are fine. It happens about after the pedal is pressed half-way down.

Any ideas? Also, one other thing the car has: while idle, the engine knocks (not a huge knock it's more of a big tremble than knock.) Thanks for the responses!

Last thing though, I noticed there is a small burn on the ECM. I bought a new (used) one that is coming in on Tuesday. I will update Tuesday when I install the ECM, but for now please give suggestions as if the ECM was fine.

Might be a TPS issue, I would test it.

Thanks for your reply, anyone else have any ideas? It turns out the computer was sent to a different address, and is being forwarded to my current address. I'm going to have the car taken to a mechanic to check all whatever you suggest (including checking the TPS), unless there are only a couple things to check that I can do by myself.

The bouncing rpm needle is a classic sign your igniter or ignition control module (icm) is going bad. Replace it asap before it leaves you stranded.
