fuel pump?????
So lately my car has been bogging a little at lower rpm. and the other day i was very low on gas then the next morning i went to go get gas got in my car tried starting it. started right away then died so i just assumed i was out of gas went to the gas station to get a gas can. they wanted 12.00 bucks for a 2 gallon can said **** it went home tried again it started right away and stayed on. went and got gas everything was cool. still noticed it was bogging a little so i went and got some injector cleaner and got more gas then the next day at work was ready to go home and started the car would barely stay on when stepping on the gas would just bog completely and it smelled rich as can be left my car at work and now today it wont even start so im thinking it is the fuel pump or filter any insight would be helpful thank you.
thanks but i really dont see how it could be the dizzy i understand when a dizzy goes bad it would bog and misfire in most cases but the fact that it has been running extremely rich and backfires and now just keeps trying to turn over but wont idk i mean if the cheapest way first would be a new dizzy i would try first but i really dont see it doing that cuz it just started happening the day i was out of gas
Sounds like tdc/crank angle sensor. What year is this car? Either in the distributor or on the front of the crankshaft are sensors that tell the computer when to fire the sparkplugs. If these are not working or intermittently working the plugs won't fire right. Could also be ignitor or coil. Is car throwing any codes? Non-firing sparkplugs will cause misfiring and also raw fuel out the exhaust that looks/smells like its running rich. Also could be spark plugs. Plugs are cheap, like $3 each, change those first.
Check the cap and rotor, plug wires etc. Sounds like to me the fuel pump is working. it's just not burning the fuel, which is why you smell raw fuel. Also, since you ran it so low on gas the other day, your pump most likely pulled up all the gunk in the bottom of your tank and put it into the fuel lines. Change the fuel filter, and check the above listed things. You'll most likely find your problem there... hope that helps.

Thanks guys its a 92 and that's what I'm thinking it could be that when I ran it on empty it grabbed all the crap at the bottom and clogged the filter. I got it towed home and when got home tried starting it it finally started and then died again and smelt raw so I'm going to buy plugs and filter when i get off thank yoi guys

no one said main relay? try changing out your main relay, mine did the same thing and my buddy resoldered mine and it was perfect. i dont think its your dizzy unless youve messed with it. my thought is try a new relay, test the pump, change the fuel filter ect. start with the cheapest thing first, but my bet is on the main relay.
I got a new filter first got home amd it was dark so waking up early before work to throw it in thanks for the help guys ill let you know if it don't work thanks guys

id check fuel pressure. plugs. cap . rotor. fuel filter. and timing
so got up early and the fuel line that threads into the filter keeps crossthreading i dont think i have the filter the exact way it was in prior to changing it. but when i tried starting it it turned on and was fine but was spraying gas everywhere so i know the pump is pushing gas through atleast and it could just be the filter so ima go home after work today and try again and start over and pull it completly out
