hey h-t atm my b16a is blowing alot of excess smoke. done research an it IS fuel..
so i droped the old fuel and put some clean stuff in and that didnt help.
so now im gonna get me a fpr an try adjusting it.

would this one work on a b16a?

those are cheap u may need a adapter. the thing it comes with will not work. your better off buying one of those off ebay for 20 bux for the same brand and everything. thats overpriced for what it is.

 

What color is the smoke?

Any CEL codes?

Why focus on the FPR?

 

there's not alot of compition in new zealand so this is quite resonble.. is it rubbish? or will it do the job?

thick black smoke. yes there is a cel but dont have anythink to see what code.
i have looked at the paper clip, but still searching for something reliable to find what code it is

 

find the code first don't just blindly throw parts at it , lot's of stuff will make it run rich (ect,O2,tps,map sensor and so on ) what do you mean you looked at the paper clip ? just jump the 2 pin conector near the ecu with a wire,paper clip hair pin what ever then count the flash's on the dash.

 

can i be a big pain and ask for a picture of the connecter =/
and yeah the method you jus mentioned, iv'e came across it a cuple of times now

 

sorry gess i didnt explain alot, still a new b.
im trying to do this build with the aid of my tutor's, honda tech, nz honda, my haynes manual, and what ive learnt so far.
ive did alot searching around and from what ive came across im going to get a adjustible fpr, new o2 sensor then get it tuned. hopefully that solves it.

its a b16a block with a 96 pr3-4 itr head.
head has been redone, block is still standerd

i brought the engine like this so not 100% about it, but can defintley see it has been acid diped.

i have installed motor myself and this is what i have ended up with
black smoke and overheating.
would it be due to incorrect vacume lines install?
as for overheating i jus tested my thermostat.
i will admit i cant rememberif fan was goin didnt want to run for to long

 

The overheating issue should be a high priority to fix. Does the fan run when the engine is hot? Does the lower radiator hose remain cool when the engine is hot?

The second priority is the running rich problem. What ECU is currently installed? Before considering an adjustable FPR, FIRST PULL THE CEL CODES. Click the CEL link in my signature.

 

yes it is but i thought alotah fuel geting into the chamber would contribute to it overheating. jus a hypothisis i realy didnt believe it ha.
just went and checked my cell. and it keeped showing 6 rapid flashes with a 5 to 8 secound gap of each other.
i have jdm p30 ecu but it has a obd02 harness i believe. and the cell i was throwing was engine coolant temperater sensor. no i think i would distincfully remember if it did, im sure it wasnt. (sounds real bad but was thinking the worst when seen smoke)
about the radiator hose's they both were well i would say extremely hot for 3 mins top running

 

A bad or disconnected ECT sensor would make the engine run rich. Check whether it's plugged in. If so, measure its resistance when the engine is hot. It should read 200-400 Ohms.

found the problem it was fualty wireing.. sounds the part! not overheating as such but did get warm, again i did not look at the radiator fan to see if it was going.

still has a little niggle.
when i give it a rev the motor starts to smoke a white black smoke and water starts driping from the exhaust.
the head has been machined acid diped and replaced valves. i didnt do the work but can tell its been dipped and i have the old valves that came out of it.
i also didnt notice any coolent in the oil or oil in the coolent and im not running any codes

i read it takes awhile for the seats to seat properly hopefully its just that

i just have to sort that out and then replace a input shaft bearing in the gearbox so if any one knows a good link can they send me that cheers
