my first engine pull (2000 y8) few questions
first off i am sorry if these questions are really simple common sense things and thats why i havent been able to find the answers but im just not sure on some things and dont have anyone around me that knows but im trying to learn and am really enjoying it just dont want to ruin anything. I recently baught a 2000 ex coupe off of a friend for scrap price since he rolled it. I have started to part it out and have now decided to move on to trying to pull the engine. I i know that i have to drain everything and i have drained everything but when i have pulled coolant hoses off of things to get them out of the way they still have lots of coolant in them. any ideas on how to clear everything out? i was thinking wrap the end of an air compressor hose with a rag for a snug fit and blow air through a hose to clean everything out? good bad idea? also on the fuel lines do i just pinch them off and leave them? and the cables running to the engine and other parts. should i trace them back and try to disconnect them or are they ok to cut and wont affect the value of parts too much. such as the a cable running to the cruise control.
Thank you for reading, any help is greatly appreciated
also anything i should watch out for doing that someone may do on there first pull.

the coolant idea wont hurt anything. just keep the psi around 80-100. it just might get messy.
dont pinch the fuel lines. just put a rag underneath it and let it run onto it. its not that much fuel really. but open the gas tank to let pressure out. you dont have to do that but i always do. put the bolt back on the fuel filter when done so nothing gets in the lines attached to the car.

also take the time to properly disconnect stuff. such as the engine harness from the fire wall, u might need a flat head to help because sometimes those clips get stuck. make sure to disconnect the clutch slave cylinder. also make sure you get those coolant lines behind the block going into the firewall/heater core

ok thank you very much for the help on that. i figure i already am making a mess every time i pull a hose off or some of them i have to cut cause they just wont come off. and when for disconecting the harnesses i have the fuse box all disconected except for where it goes through what im guessing is the fire wall (the back side of the engine bay?) and i dont think an automatic has a slave cylinder cause it doesnt have a clutch? or is it still something that goes with the shifting?

Engine harness: its before the the fuse box. on the passenger shock tower on the side. it should be like 3 or 4 plugs with like 8 wires in each one. some **** like that. you should not have to remove the fuse box.
trans: ya i didnt know it was auto. but remeber to disconnect the cables from the shifter box on the tranny. i believe auto is cable.
the only plus you have to dissconect are on both shock towers, passenger and drive, and like said before it should be like 3-4 each side. you dont have to take them off the actuall engine. make sense?

And i was just pulling the fuse box to try to sell it. parents have been complaining wanting the garage back so i am trying to get as much out before they make me scrap the shell ha. and also thank you for the info on the tranny.

ek's 96-00 civic's use a 1 piece harness it goes through the fire wall to the ecu you will have to unbolt the harness at the firewall, unplug the ecu (passagers kick panel) and push the harness and plugs out of the fire wall there are some wire's connected to the fuse panel also. did you pull the block drain ? large bolt near the oil filter (above).

ohh alright, so i unplug the harness from the ecu and push it though the fire wall. and then with the harness just unplug anything that isnt attacked to the block or tranny?

ya you got the idea also i find it easier to drop the motor/trans out the bottom when working with limited overhead room if your junking the car cut out the core suport so you can drop the motor/trans down then roll it out the front . good luck and don't hurt your self
