Help, My brakes squeak then a grinding noise
I just picked up a 96 accord with about 50k miles on it. The brakes start to give off a high pitched squeak when i compe to an almost complete stop. If i start to brake a little harder there is a grinding noise and i can feel it through the brake pedal. Anyone have any idea of what's wrong? I'm new to cars in general. Is there any place i can goto to see an install on brake pads on an accord or something? thanks
Your brake pads are shot. Because of this, your rotors won't last through Halloween unless you get the pads replaced.
Never buy a car with bad brakes...

changing brake pads is pretty straight forward, go to autozone or the nearest auto parts store and buy a book on your model car. you will also need to turn your rotors. good luck.
Autozone, I believe, sells lifetime guaranteed rotors and pads.
There is a tab on your brake pads backing plate that squeals when it makes contact with your rotor when your pads are dangerously low. The grinding is your backing plate actually rubbing your rotors. Depending on how bad your pad has worn your rotor down will depend on if they need to be turned or not. See when you bed in new pads they conform to the shape of the rotor, unless it haas a huge gash in it or is worn down to far, then a vibration is bound to develop.
