Default Help with water pump

Hey guys I have a 95 si w/h23 autotragic :/ lol

I need some help with overheating.
I replaced my thermostat and flushed the coolant and bled the coolant.

At idle it starts to overheat (one or maybe two bars over half). But only stays like that for about a minute or so then goes to half like normal.
On freeway or similar, it's fine.
My fans kick on eventually, not sure if its the right time though.

Any suggestions?

You might check the temp sensor in the head...could be dirty or need to be replaced.

Also check that you don't have any leaks.

I shot the upper radiator hose and metal part where it connects on the head and I got 195 and apprx. 210 degrees. So technically that would be overheating?

and what leaks should I look for and where?

Given that it is only happening at idle (when there is no airflow), it's possible you have a semi-clogged radiator; flushing the fluid will not necessarily clear it out either. Stock radiator?

Yes it a stock replacement radiator. My fins are in good condition too, seems though it was replaced not too long ago.

Oh btw I got the temp readings from a IR thermometer

195*F is operating temperature for most engines

The behavior you are describing would generally lead me to believe that you still have air pockets.

Jack the nose of your car up so that the top of the radiator is higher than the intake manifold and let it warm up with the cap off.

If you have coolant agitation [the coolant blows out of the radiator, not just bubbles] while it is idling, you have a blockage somewhere [generally thermostat or radiator] or a head gasket leak.
