crank pulley install
Uhh what? Put it on the same way you took it off.. It slides on, and you tighten down the ONE bolt holding it on...Did this really need a whole thread?

exactly what i thort! why is it piviting thoe? an its not tightning up? this why i am double checkn..

You need a special tool to hold the pulley in place (it goes inside the hex-shaped cutout) while you tighten the pulley bolt. Make sure you use a torque wrench and torque it to spec.

You can help by putting the car in 1st on chocks and having someone stand on the brakes.

^ You're right. I was thinking about how it's harder to push the car in lower gears. But in this case you're working on the crank so you want it in a high gear.

what i do is i go to a local tire shop where they have super strong impact guns.. bring the 19mm socket and usually theyll do it for free but i tip them 2 or 3 bucks anyways as a thank you... will be the simplest way to remove and tighten a stubborn crank pulley bolt

wtf why fifth gear? First gear will resist more than fifth.
Try it yourself, park on a downhill, first gear will hold ya, fifth will roll....
But yeah, Crank pulley, crank pulley key, bolt, and tighten it. You don't necessary need the crank pulley tool, but it helps.

In 5th it is easy for the car to move the engine because a large movement of the car requires a small engine revolution.
So if you're pushing, first gear provides a lot of resistance. But if you're working on the crank, you're using the crank to move the car. In that case it's easiest in first and hardest in fifth.

Our Tercel is an automatic, so I had to make a pulley-holder tool. Luckily, Toyota designs the Tercel's pulley such that it's easy to make a holder out of ordinary bar stock.

i put it in 5th gear and had someone holding the flywheel to get the pully off. thanks great idea! it was easy as becouse the crank pulley bolt wasnt tightend to spec (which was my problem). so i went to start it to see it that what was makn the awfull noise.
put my CHARGED battery in turned the ingnition to ON an my CEL didnt come on an my abs light stayed on for about 5 sec's as usual, went to crank it over and nothing?? when i had the key turning my abs light then came on then off when i put the back to on.
installing the motor went extremely well! had a lot of time to quadruple check EVERYTHING. last nite i started it with the loose pully and started str8 away, take pully off and as stated up top happend.. odd?
