Default Is this H22A Turbo return line ok?(PICS)

Do you guys think this is draning properly? I bought a Turbowirx scavage pump because I thought my turbo might have failed becase the oil wasnt draining properly but here is a shot of what the drain looked like before I shipped the turbo back to precision. what you think?

looks like the drain flange of the turbo is below the oil level in the oil pan... That isnt good.

But dont H-series engine sit tilted a bit?

Yeah the flange is sitting below where the block meets the pan. it does tilt a little bit but not enough I don't think..

it looks like the oil pan bung is too low on the pan...does it sit above the pans oil level?...

I can only run 3 1/4 quarts in the pan with the car off before it srarts coming out of the hole... it is sitting low but that's the only place I could weld it with the location of the turbo... so that's why I bought the Turbowrix scavenging pump I think that is my only option with this turbo manifold..

yea, thats not good......you need to get a decent manifold instead of a bunch of bandaid fixes...

The location of the bung does not matter... Its the level of the oil in the pan.

it does matter when the oil level sits well above the drain back......

no... it doesnt. You only need to have the drain flange of the turbo slightly above the oil level in the pan.

Have you ever seen the drain-back system used on the Greddy kits for the S2000???

Yeah I know.. Its a great manifold good quality welds and all. I tinink im running a bigger turbo than the manifoild is intended for.. Ricky at speed factory Checked it out the day before I dropped the turbo with him and he saids it looks like it would drain fine because we only have about 1QT of oil in our oil pans when the motor is running. But I was just more concerned about when im going down hill if that 1 qt would sit in the front of the pan and block the opening of the return line... I usderstand what your sayin steve.. Scavenge Pumps have been used for years a friend of mine uses one on his turbo Hayabusa because his turbo sits below the oil level, That was his only option and it has worked great for 3 years... HorsePowerFreaks also runs Scavenge Pumps on their 1000+ whp BMW because of the turbo location.. I just didnt want to use the pump If I didnt have too because Its just one more part that can fail and cause damage to my engine. Im not one to use bandaid fixes or cheap out if tI have the money I'll get what i need to do it right the first time.. but a new manifold is out of the question right now but is for sure a future plan.

It probably would work but its not ideal, what you wanna do is clock the center section a little bit so the oil return line points more towards the engine . I'd also retap the pan a little bit higher, also just a little tip to keep in mind, if you have an issue with the return line being so short that it wants to kink near the fittings, used barb fittings, they will prevent the kink. We know all about h22 drain line setups here, done a ton of h22 setups where the turbo sits low.

As for how its setup now, if you look at some of the newer car setups, the return line bung on the pan is almost near the bottom.
