what is the adjustable rod on the bottom of the picture called? anyone know what size approximately too?

I would like to use a similar one to brace my turbo to the block somehow.

I see the rod ends here;

any help would be appreciated.

 

That is not really going to be a good option in helping to support the turbo, you need something more rigid.

 

Care to elaborate on why that wouidnt be rigid? A proper bracket off the engine to a tab on the turbo with a turn buckle like that or a tube with weld slugs and rod ends will be more than enough.

Actually used correctly it's quite good. It supports the weight of the turbo but still allows it to move when things get hot and start expanding.
