I have a b18a1 crx. Motor has low miles and has always ran great. Doesnt smoke or anything either. I take care of the car as if it were my child even though it was strictly a weekend car. I took it out last week and it ran great. Started it up in the cold for the first time since and it sounded terrible. Sounds like a mild knocking that is rpm dependent. This is random to me. Still full of oil. Also had a hard time starting like the battery was low. But I was told about a month ago I was gonna need a valve adjustment soon. Anyone have a clue?

If your valves were loose they would tick at any load. What rpm does it knock the most? I would drain the oil and check for metal shavings.

 

check the timing belt to make sure the marks line up, ignition timing, wires and plugs

if you skipped a tooth or have a misfiring plug it can do this

 

It ticks at any rpm but the car just got retimed ignition and everything was gone through and all he said was I would need an adjustment soon.

 

Valve adjustments are simple. Get it done and see if the problem remains.
