I just got my D16z6 running real nice when i hit high rpm's for too long i think. now there is a knock/tick from what sounds like the head area. i checked the valve clearance (good), and timing (not sure). What damage can you do by running at high rpm's?

is it a constant sound? more like a ticking? because my car does the exact same thing. when i adjusted the valve lash it got a little better but its still loud

How high did you take it? From what I've heard, if you run it too high without proper valvetrain upgrades the valves can do what they call "float" and when that happens there is a small chance the valve hit the piston and bent a valve.

Or you might be low on oil btw.

Thanks, yeah it's constant with the speed of the engine. bent valve you say? how would i check to see if a valve is bent, take off the head?

Taking off the head you can definitely see it. If its an exhaust valve you might be able to see if you take off the headers.
