Default 1998 Honda Civic and Crank Sensor and Check Engine

So my check engine light came on yesterday. I checked the codes and it was a 9 - according to the book the crank sensor. I cleared the code and drove it around for a while it the check engine light did not come back on. Was this a glitch or can I expect to have it come on again? Anything else that may trigger the crank sensor? Thanks!

Code 9 is for the CYP sensor circuit.

Do nothing unless the CEL code returns or there is a performance problem.

Thanks. Is that sensor by the crank? If so I'll probably have someone do it. What do you think the cost on replacing it would be - average cost?

So do you think it was a glitch or something else? why would it trigger a code and then once cleared go away? Could it be a mechanical problem?

It's one of three sensors inside the distributor.

Sometimes codes are thrown and don't return. To avoid fixing something that is not broken, do nothing unless the code returns or there is problem.

if it was the crank sensor code the CEL will blink and show misfires in what ever cylinder that it was in detected. code 9 would be in the distributor and not something u can replace without buying another used or new distributor. all those sensors in the distributor are pinned into the plug and its more trouble then its worth. cutting and splicing is not something u want to do with anything that is voltage sensitive like the distributor sensors. they control alot of how the engine runs.

I appreciate the input!!! It kind of runs crappy at idle, and I did check the rpms and it right on. Maybe that is just me... at drive speed it runs fine, would that be the performance issue??? Thanks again! If it returns I will post here for a solution. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Measure the resistance of the TDC sensor. It should be 350-700 Ohms.

Ok, went to Autozone and they pulled the code - P1457. It lists the following:

Loose fuel cap
Vapor canister saturated
Failed vent solenoid
Failed purged solenoid

I replaced the cap, original for 13 years. Hopefully that was it. If its the other items where do I start and check for them? Thanks.

Ron or someone else, the check engine light came back on. Where do I start with regards to the emissions issue/CEL? Thanks!
