Default Which turbo do i run??

Hey Guys!

Just wanting some opinions for a car we're doing for a customer here... Car has a b18c with 9:1 cp's on stock sleeves... I'm thinking t3/04 or gt2871r

Would anybody else have any other suggestions? Customer expects 350hp+

cheers in advance

i would suggest a gt3076r. it could make that power level easily and still have room to make more power in the future if the customer decides too.

Talk to Shodan about a TR3030R. The response with this turbo is amazing.

a 57 trim will do the job, and shouldn't cost too much

agree for BB, for journal the precision 5431e could crank it out as well

T3/04 is a general housing designation. It means nothing without knowing what wheels are in it. You also didn't state what kind of fuel you planned on running. A GT2871R for 350whp+ is not a good combo as its running past its maximum efficiency.

Tell us more of the user's needs and we can be of more assistance.

No. Disco Potato is GT2860RS (which is smaller than the GT2871R)

For 350+, this too would not be optimal.

I suggested the TR3030R because I had a SC34 and my goal was 300-350. That ended up not being enough. On the same engine/same dyno/comparable weather the TR3030R made 400 whp about the time the SC34 was making 300.

We did 440whp at 22psi on a t3/t4 57 trim. The motor had gsr cams, stock manifold and 81.5mm bore.

The TR3030R sounds promising if the spool is faster or the same as a 57 trim and cost isn't drastically inflated. It's making the same power at 3psi less with less adianatic heating.

that's about as far efficient as a 57 trim will get at those pressure levels. The turbine wheel won't much more efficiently without a lot of heat.

The TR3030R is significantly more expensive than the 57 trim turbocharger, but that's because its very responsive, steel ball-bearing cartridge, and designed for the circuit and high endurance racing.

You're not going to get good responsiveness without spending few extra bucks

I think this is 1158's build

If cost is an issue then the TR3030R isn't what you are looking for. As Shodan posted, it's a custom ball bearing turbo. I wanted the best response I could get since my car is 99% street driven but had a goal of 450 whp. If you check out the link that Shodan posted (in my sig as well) you can see the dyno graphs. The TR3030R hit 400whp @ 6K (that's on conservative daily driving tune)

I loved my SC34 but it just didn't make the power I was looking for. With the TR3030R I still have room to grow if I get bored with 450.

Oh yeah, I want to add. The TR3030R was worth every penny and then some. I've had a few people in the car with a lot of turbo experience and they think it's one of the best all around turbos (response/power) they have encountered.

sorry for responding so late and thanks for all the replies! Basically, 350whp is the goal, gas here is 95octane and the motor is stock sleeved b18c with 9:1cp's...

As far as i know, all i can tell is the turbo this guy has given us is turbonetics t3/t4 and its .63 a/r.... Is this good enough for our goals? The head is standard itr

That still doesn't tell us anything without knowing what size compressor and exhaust wheels are in there. Give the car back to your "customer" and have him take it to somebody who knows what they are doing.

Turpid Porpoise is right whether your feelings are hurt or not.. I mean, what you just gave are just housing configurations. nothing that says anything about the wheels inside them. He's suggesting you might be fine with what you have.... but no one knows what you have, so how can anyone help.

And with that, I bid thee a farewell.

i agree. what kind of shop or tuner do you call yourselves? sorry but truth is 98% of people on this forum are inexperienced teenagers and your asking for their opinion?

please do us all a favor and tell us the name of your shop or who you are and location so no one makes the mistake of bringing their car to you. honestly if you dont know how to properly size a turbo to a specific engine/power goal then you dont need to be modifying cars imho or belong anywhere near them for that matter.

we all know he will want to turn the boost up in the future so my vote goes to the Garrett gt3076r. Best bang for the buck turbo out there for the street for under 500whp. Super quick spool.
