Default Del Sols -- Best years to buy? How hard to boost?

Hey guys! I'm new to civic del sols but I've always had a liking for them! Unfortunately I know nothing about them! So if I was looking for a del sol what would be the best years to get? Also how hard is it to actually boost a del sol? Right now I have a 4th gen prelude so it's either boost that or pick up a sol and boost that? Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

del sol's only existed from 92-98. the best delsol to get would be one with a b16 in it from factory but they are rare to find as not many were in production

i believe in 94 they changed a few things.
1. being they add the b16 to the line up.
2. they glove box was redesigned to not have the hinges break
3. they eventually took the fog lights out. but i think that was in 96

Having owned a 4th gen Prelude I STRONGLY urge you to keep it and boost it. You will regret it a lot. The Prelude may be a bit heavy but it more than makes up for it in power and torque and handling. Del Sols are crap for what they are. Small and heavy and underpowered.

I would get a 93 to 95. Because it's OBD 1
Get an SI. Because it has 4 wheel disc brakes.
Get one with a blown head gasket. Because it's cheap and you want to do a B swap.
Now you can find a running B18 and do a small turbo or build for boost and the sky is the limit.
GOautoworks.com for turbo info.

I also recommend finding an OBD1 del sol with engine problems. Del sols are cool. Its almost a Civic underneath. I bought a 94 si with a blown d16. Did a GSR/auto trans swap. Painted it fiji blue (06 civic si color b529p) Installed an integra ls rear wing on it. It looks factory! Gave it to my daughter. There are unique JDM accessory options for Del Sols. hmotorsonline has a transtop conversion if you want to get crazy. If you are planning to build a quick street car, A Del Sol is a good candidate.

You will miss the torque and power of the H/F-engines. You will regret it I guarantee it.

the del sol is like any other civic to boost... if you want a B then look for the vtec model (EG2) as that has the b16 in it. it will be EXTREMELY hard to find one esp for a decent price and most people will post their si as a vtec model.

for the haters taht think del sols are so overpowered...the heaviest civic and del sol models for the same year.1994 Honda del Sol VTEC MT 2491 pounds, while the 1994 Honda Civic Si HB MT 2390

as for the best years to buy... thats kinda with whatever you like, they all are pretty much the same, just find one that does not have leaking roof seals, as sols are KNOWN for this. as for which is best feel free to read up on them and all of their little changes over the years http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CR-X_del_Sol

btw since your in the states the 93 was the first year of em and it was titled a civic del sol while in other countries it started in 92 under the name of crx del sol. oh and warning you now, 90% of crx owners will despise you for owning a del sol (as in their mind the del sol is a abonimation to the crx chassis)

Your incorrect, the USDM Del Sols were only made 93-97. As for the the best one to buy, look into the last two years the 96-97 models. if you like the front with the auxilary lights then check out the 93-95 model years, but if you want something different the 96-97 came with the "dolphin nose" front end, which didnt have Aux lights. i dont really know for a fact if they made a Vtec model in those years i know the 95 had it.

the 96-97 models had NO leaking problems like the previous years did, also the Si models came with front and rear disk breaks. as for boosting, you can either drop a B-series motor or boost the stock single came motor that came with the car.

Finding a Del sol VTEC model which has the b16 motor stock from the factory is going to be a hard and their going to be expensive, especially with a car that will more then likely have very high mileage. Good Luck on your search either way.
