So, the passenger door on my del sol only opens from the inside. What are some of the things that could be wrong? should i get a new exterior door handle? Any info would help. Thanks

The linkage to the exterior handle has probably broken or come loose or the exterior door handle has $#@+ the bed. You'll have to take the interior door panel and handle off to get back in there and see. If it's just the linkage reattach/replace it and go, but if the handle's done you'll be getting a new one.

hm..couldnt really see what was going on in there. everything seemed to be in tact. i wasnt exactly sure what to look for, since i dont know what its supposed to look like.

You will probably find that the pivot hole on the inside of the door handle has broken in half and the tension spring is hanging loose. If you can find the loose half of the pivot hole you can superglue it back together and reinstall the spring. You have to remove the door handle to work on it. You'll have to remove a rubber grommet to get to one of the 10 mm bolts on the door handle. Needle nose pliers will help to remove the oval shaped linkage retainer about 2 inches below the handle inside the door.

 

My passenger door is not working either. I pulled the door panel this weekend and found the pivot to be out of the door handle. I put it back in the handle and the first time I pulled on it to open the door it jumped back out again.

I have looked at Ebay and see lots of aftermarket door handles offered. Not sure about their quality. I know the factory handle has lasted 18 years and hopefully the next handle will last the rest of the cars life.
Where would be the best place to buy a door handle from?

 

Majestic, eBay, or a yard are your best and cheapest bets.
