Ok the outer door handle on my moms del was having problems with opening the door it will only open half the time this has been doing this for a week is what she tells me. Then i went to borrow it earlier today and i pulled on the handle and heard a ding and the handle stayed out and the door did not open so i opened it from the inside and took the door panel off only to find that a lone spring had flown out of its spot and was sitting in the bottom on the door i then looked for where it goes with no luck

just replace the door handle, thats what happened to me a while back. now i have one black handle and on the passenger side i have a captiva blue pearl handle. looks ugly, hahahah, o yeah, dont forget to switch the locks when changing the handle.

The door handles are a common thing on a del sol to break. Well actually not the handle, but the spring and rod which you have in your picture. Some how, the rod ether gets short or it falls off. If you go to TeamSolCal.com and search in there site. They will have a bunch of diagrams and how tos, to help fix your problem. But what i did when my del sol door didnt want to open, i got a 10mm sockets and took off the 2 bolts that holds my door handle. And i started messing around with the rod untill i kept spinning it to become longer. You can extended your rod longer btw, from just turning it, you can see threads on it. But thats what i did and it helped me out. Good luck.

Hi, by any chance do you have pictures of this fix and the rod in question? I am the 2nd owner of a 1993 Samba Green Del Sol and little things still need to be fixed which include driver door handle outside and inside. Thanks so much.
