Default Step Deck Vs O-Rings

Hey guys,

Running a D16z6 block with a D16y8 head. Currently had a few head gasket issues and looking to both re-engineer my setup a little stronger and also go for a more conservative timing values with my tune.

I am wanting to achieve a better headgasket seal.

Currently have Dart Sleeves, Cometic 1.3mm MLS head gasket, 76mm Bore.
Wanted to know the Pro's & Con's of O-rings Vs a step deck and what would be the better path to go down etc or possibly both?

Thanks in advance !

i think you might be mistaken...step decks are usually .003" if youre sleeved stuck out that high it would never seal. That doesnt make much sense.

Step decks are becoming less poplular. O-ringing is most definatly a better method. Alot of people with Hondas do the copper o-rings (which is what i have) Although some people do use stainless wire with a reciever groove in the head. Ive also heard that some dont use the reciever groove with MLS gasket. I think copper wire is defintaly most common within the honda community tho

What kind of head gasket is used when a receiver ring is used in the head?

i would say with a stainless wire and reciever groove in head then a copper headgasket would be used....I have heard of people using stainless without a reciever groove with a MLS gasket.

But without a doubt i would say 95% of honda builders out there go Sleeve of thier choice with Copper O-rings
