It sounds like the start of a head gasket problem there is many ways to go about this first you should do a compression test that should tell you where the problem is , also has the raidiator been replaced if so while the car is cool take the raidiator cap off and start the car and see if the water constantly boils and check to see if the water has oil floating in it.
How did you find out AFTER the deal? You scammed yourself.

Really? Do you actually believe everything everyone tells you? Did you actually inspect the car yourself? And the Prelude didn't come with the 2,2 liter VTEC engine until 93 if I remember correctly. That is unless he swapped it for a busted engine, which seems to be the case.
Well this is like my first car so i don't really know anything about cars. But I took my friend that buys and sells I thought he knew what he was talking about I guess not but my car has a h23 how can i add pictures
My friend buys and sells too but hes an avid honda/acura guy so he def checks everything..so lets try not to get caught up again. Oh and def get that head gasket changed and also check spark plugs..make sure there is no oil in the sockets..change valve cover seal and spark plug gaskets too...only my opinion. My speedometer doesnt work either and rpm does, doesnt hinder me though. Would be nice to know how fast im going though.
