h23 worth rebuilding??
Alright well my car always had a very slight tick coming from the engine that never seemed to be a problem for the past 3 years untill recently that tick became a loud knock and within 10-15 miles later was more of a clunking and lead to the car pretty much just dieing on me. Now i know this is the infamous rod knock so i plan on putting a new engine in it, but i was thinking.....since ill have an extra engine, now could i strip it down to the bare block, bore out the cylinders and slowly rebuild the engine? or is there no point to it because the block is comprimised? open to just about any suggestions. I thought it would be a fun project to work on and slowly rebuld as deals on parts come up.
You could tear it apart and see if the crank is in ok shape. You'll either just have bearing material on the crank and a shop could micropolish the crank and clean it up, or it will just trash a rod journal. I've seen it where it's gone both ways.
Getting a block bored, honed, decked isn't too expensive. Probably a couple hundred. I've seen H22 heads pretty cheap, cheaper than B series VTEC heads.
I think you have the potential to build a nice motor.

cool thanks thats good to hear. atleast there will be some bright side to this whole thing. yea i was thinking about the h22 head but that probably wouldnt be for a while. deff have to research that more too for all the details involved with it.
elemntsk8r16,
I am doing the same type of thing. I've pulled my h23 and put in a h22. But I also bought an extra head to put onto the h23. It's cheaper than you think, may be worth looking into.
