sound deadening
My friend has an'06 Acura TL, and has done a few simple modifications. Some kinda interested me as far as noise reduction. These included heat wrapping the exhaust pipe, and applying undercoating/truck bedliner in a few areas. I also have noticed that the rear wheel wells are lined with a carpet material from the factory. I have been keeping my car original, however I've been curious about these noise reduction/comfortability modifications. I do like the rawness of the S2k, the intake and exhaust noises, but I do like less road noise and rattles. I hope to eventually get a hardtop for wind noise. Any input on undercoating or exhaust wrap, or any other similar simple and discrete driveability modifications?
This thread is the best for me bc i just did some sound deadening of my own.
My 00 GLW s2000 had the original carpet. now being a 10 year old + car it was kinda stinky. ( Wet dog Smell) So i was like hmmmm what can I do. Black brand new oem carpet. Yeah sounds good to me .
So I got down to work. Pulled the red carpet, cleaned off all the mold that had grown under the carpet, from the seals being ****, and 10 years old.
Long story short, I ordered the new OEM black carpet, 200 sqft of fatmat aka dynomatt. off of ebay. and a full roll of 3/8ths inch sound deadening material and went to work.
After a full weekend off removing what was the worse smelling carpet i have ever smelt. I ended up with a fully dyno matted car, the whole interior was layed with the fatmat and the 3/8 foam. and the new carpet and the rest of the interior in stalled.
All and all the car sounds much better, i have 1 10in kicker and memphis speakers so the car can hit really hard.
OK so all in all. its an amazing difference.
B4 i did the install i have vibration, road noise, plastic rattle, lisence plate rattle. every thign rattled,
I fat matted every thing, took all the interior out. all metal was coverd, all the inside of every pannel was coverd, inside the doors, inside the door pannels. EVERYTHING was layed with fat mat. and the interior flooring was coverd in the foam.
IS it worth it ... **** YES. every car i own from now on will be insulated. Its a HUGE difference. Now i have no road noise, no vibration, no heat from the tranny,
I also jacked up the car and did the tranny tunnle for good mesure.
BUT REMEMBER. YOUR DIRIVING A S2000 YOU WILL HAVE ROAD NOISE.
im a lil crunk right now so i may have rambled or repeated my self.
any one that reads this pm me if u have any questions, Like i said b4 it takes a good long weekend of wrenching to make this happen but it is very well worth it.

You think that carpet smelled bad... wait until that fatmat heats up. It is definitely not the same thing as dynamat, at all. Trust me. It is asphalt based and stinks like none other in the summer.
To the OP:
There is stuff called MLV (mass loaded vinyl.) It is what you are looking for and weights ALOT and blocks noise very well. Caveat: nothing will stop road noise if you have leaky seals and they will become much more noticable if noise from other sources goes away. My solution: crank up the volume. My last car was a convertible and no amount of sound deadener would have quieted it down much because the top window seals were old and destroyed (you think yours are bad at 10 years, this convertible was 20 years old with original seals.)

I used e-dead on my contour SVT back in the day and stand firmly behind it. It did not smell, it drastically reduced road noise, and allowed me to run my rear-deck sub at near full volume without any sort of vibrations. No issues with melting or smell in the summer like you might experience with other products.
