Default Do clutches unleash WHP?

Hey guys, I've got this JDM B16a crx with bolt ons and I can't seem to beat other crx's that claim to have JDM B16a crx. I've lost to two by one car length. I've heard the other cars were ls/vtec with a full cage and B16 nos with both passengers. WTF? I've got an LS tranny vs their B16 tranny. If I install my ACT 6puck clutch, will I get a better advantage? And if I baseline dyno my car, and then install the clutch, will it show more hp and tq? Thanks for any help guys, I just hate to lose to an equal car.

Ditch the LS tranny. Get yourself a si, gsr tranny, or type R if you've got the money. Shorter gearing will drastically improve your acceleration and quarter mile.

Thanks for the reply. I still dont' understand how an LS vs. B16 tranny makes that much of a diff. Doesn't each gear go to the same mph?

I do know that the LS vs. GSR both have the same first and second. I don't know the LS vs Si tranny gearing comparisson.

Check out the Hybrid site.

LS = Longest
GSR = Longer
Si = Shorter
R = Shortest

If you have the money, get the C5 tranny... you also get LSD for traction.

What do longer gears and shorter ones mean? Each gear tops out diff. mph?

there final drives are different the b16 final drive is alot higher then an ls. as for type r, if you really want some nice gearing get a jdm 98 type r tranny with a 4.7 final drive...

shorter gears top out at lower speeds than longer gears, (not dramatically lower, but a little lower) short gears will accelerate faster (depending on engine its combine with of course) because of gear reduction (=torque), however longer gears have a higher top speed (in the case of the LS it should have a higher top speed in each gear as opposed to a type-r), so while cruising at 75mph the LS should be at a lower rpm (which also saves gas)

clutches hold when it comes to higher horsepower applications, if you want to change your gearing in a most drastic way, equip an LSD, either a cheap Phantom, or get a KAAZ, and find yourself a JDM type R 4.98 final drive gear.

Then again, gearing is only important to what you do, and what type of mods you plan on putting on the car.

Drag or Road race application?

i was wondering what the hell this meant. that makes absolutely no sense. dont listen to this guy, hes talkin about gears yet he says to equip the car with a LSD, phantom (which is not a LSD, more like a cheap mans locker) or a KAAZ (i wouldnt buy this either, mine blew up in 3 months of normal driving and about 3 drag events in a mid 14 second car). then he continues with the JDM FD of 4.98, what is that, never heard of it. i do believe he was a few keys off more like 4.78.

Though, ATS makes a 4.9 Final Drive.

the more clamping force you add to your clutch, the more
you POUND THE HELL out of your thrust washers and then
the crank. keep that in the back of your mind...

You sure don't want those thrust inserts to go out....crank will be swinging back and forth!
