I have a 97 Honda civic ex and i just put a new aftermarket cd player in the car. 2 days ago my dash light went out why driving home at night. i have read on here some where that the factor tape player was some way tied into the dimmer switch.

I have check the fuses and i try all the way up to a 15 amp fuses and it blows them as soon as i cut the lights on to check . every thing els still works head light tail light and even the cd player

I heard you can take the ground wire from the cd player harness and de pin it and ground it to the frame and that would fix the problem but have not try that yet.

Have any one has this problem and tell me please with some great detail how to fix this pain in my butt issue. really getting old using a flash light every 5 min to check my speed at night.

Hint.. never ever install bigger fuses, you can burn your car to the ground.

Pull the HU and check and make sure the red, [illumination ground] and red/black, [illumination power, fuse #30-7.5A] are not connected to anything on the HU.

The OEM radio is not tied into the "dimmer switch", other then for illumination, the dome light is run through the OEM HU if your Civic came with factory key-less entry, [light green/red (input) and light green/black (output)] meaning if a jumper was not used your dome light would not work off the doors. 94

Never wire a deck into the dimmer switch. Never.

 

See i have not wired anything. i just did a simple cd player install .. just like i have done in past. when i pulled out my HU a sec ago the only 2 wires that are not hooked up is the blue remote that goes to a amp and the orange dimmer wire . Everything els is just matching the colors up . that why i am so lost on this dash light not working.

I see the red/black wire that on the factory harness but there not that color wire on the aftermarket harness that connects to the hu..

 

How about the red lead in the stock radio harness, [illumination ground]? 94
