Default ? about misshifting

if you misshift into third from fourth while in vtec, would the rpm jump past the fuel cutoff? i was up late last nite driving home... i did this ( i kno pretty stupid) but ya.. rite when i engaged it jumped to fuel cutoff and was wondering what do you think the outcomes are of my motor... throttle response feels as if it was affected, but could be my mind playin tricks... theres no pinging.. idle is still the same... motor still sounds the same... any suggestions? recommendations?

downshifting doesn't go into fuel cutoff. miss a downshift and engine can get damaged. (if not caught in time). fuel cutoff is only good on acceleration.

get a leak down test. If things are good, then no problems.

funny thing.. i dont remember... i guess theres a lesson to be learned.. dont drive late at nite real tired (around 4) was out with a bunch of friends all nite... dont quite remember what speed... i was in fourth.. when i downshifted into third.. and i just saw my tach jump to fuel cutoff and so i pushed in the clutch.. and slowly drove to a gas station to check to see if anything was wrong.. noticed a slight decrease in throttle response... no idle problems... and it started right up this morning... no knocks or pings from what i can hear!

it it only hit 9k or so I wouldn't worry about it. You can just to a compression test IMO, but I've never heard a motor wth bent valves idle the same

I am no tech guy... but with bent valves does he need to do a compression test or a leak down test to test for damage? (I am honestly not sure of the difference between the tests. I think one checks valves other cylinders???? If someone can explain.)

make sure there are no ticks whatsoever........its really obvious when you really fugg up a few valves.........but sometimes its hard to detect minor valve damage by sound

a compression test will show that something is wrong. that's all I meant. Leakdown tests are good, but a comp test will show a bent valve.

Holy crap dude. You redlined 4th and miss-shifted into 3rd. That's a first...usually it is redline 3rd and miss-shift into 2nd. Either way, it is not good for the motor.

You were redlining fourth gear under those conditions?

yah if you did let it go too high you will float a valve or several valves and bend them....my friend has a gsr in his hatch and went from top of third into second and hit about 12000 rpm?!?!? well anyways 8 bent valves and no compression in the 3rd cylinder he still pulled a 14.9 at the track! now he has a fully built JG head and some other goodies......but anyways the throttle respnse is probably just in your head......and get a comp test becasue pretty much the only thing that could have happened would be floating a valve.....and that will usually make your car run lreally bad especially at idle!
good luck!

Don't be too quick to say "I got it done under warrenty." Especially if you don't know the results yet. If they suspect driver error which BTW this is, they may Not cover the costs of fixing whatever you broke and then it turns into a very expensive lesson. There have been more than a few HT members with varying results on this subject.

You'll know soon enough, Good luck,

A.
