i was changing my oil a couple days ago and noticed a bunch of oil on my transmission. so i crawled over there and noticed it was everywhere around my passenger axle. i grabbed the axle where it goes into the transmission and it wiggles by the hand. so today i changed axles and noticed the seal there is tore a little. i think this is where the leak is from but the axle is still not sturdy. i hit a pretty good size tree limb that was in the middle of the road and had noticed a vibration. i was thinking it was a bent rim but i believe it could be what caused the axle to come loose and thats my vibration. any insight on how to fix this would be helpful. thanks.

 

U need a new seal on the transmission where the axle goes in. Carfully pry it out with a seal puller (see autozone or other stores to get a loaner) and you can use a socket that is large enough that will rest on the metal part of the seal and carefully tap it in (I'd lube the seal and where it goes into the trans for easy install (thats just me though).
Get another axle that is known to be good or buy a new/rebuilt one and install and see if all if cured.
If the vibration is not cured, check to see if the rim/tire on the vibration side is still balanced.

 

The axle end should not wiggle where it is inserted into the differential.

 

i asked some people that know more about transmissions than i do and they said it could be the bearings bad. does anybody know a good place to buy transmission bearings?
