I've been doing some powdercoating and really love it. My block and head will fit into my oven, and the powder coating can handle the temperature of the engine (I assume around 200-300 degrees at the most and the powder coating is good to 400+). The one thing I wonder is when I'm curing the powder at 400 degrees, will that screw anything up? I know when I replace valve guides I heat the head up to 250 degrees, but would 400 degrees warp the head/block at all? Any experience is appreciated.

I know I saw all that, but alot of those are cast iron block not aluminum and I found nobody that did them on honda blocks and didn't have a problem, that is why I asked. I also asked about the head, because you heat it up to 250 degrees to do valve guides and they say don't heat it up anymore, but they don't say why. Warpage? Valve guides falling out?

 

it would be a bad idea to heat the head up that high. valve seats and guides could come loose and you could end up annealing the aluminum. i don't imaging the block would be much safer... .

try using the high heat engine enamel. i've used it on valve covers many times and recently tried it on my F23 block. i'm very pleased with the results! there is a good variety of colors available too.

 

Okay, thanks. I might just try it on some spare heads and block to see if anything gets screwed up.

Yeah that's a good point. I was going to measure the surface for warpage, valve guide installed height, and I guess look at the valve seats before and after.

 

Any progress on this? Interested in the results.
