Engine advice
Hi guys i have a 97 integra with a ZC engine in there thats on its last legs so i want to get another engine in there, was thinking of just getting a next ZC, but i want some vtec, can i get some suggestions as to engine options that wont be too much of a hassle to put in and would come with vtec, also are there ZC's that come with vtec? Also what would the cost potentially be.
thanks much in advance, so im a bit of a noob when it comes on to cars

if your integra has a ZC in it, it is probably a 1st gen, 86-89.... Nobody in their right mind would go through the trouble of swapping a d series motor (d16a1 = dohc ZC) into a b series chassis.
Are you sure its a 97? You could swap another ZC that is single cam and has vtec. That is the tradeoff with ZC/d series motors.
single cam vtec
OR
dual cam NON vtec
If you truly have a 97 with a ZC in it.... I don't know what to say. haha

yeah its a 97 the previous owner had placed that engine in there, the car was in an accident and i guess he took the engine out, i was wondering if i bought a current engine how much stuff would i have to change out and replace
But yeah, theres no way of telling you which motor you have or how difficult it will be without a picture. ZC doesnt really mean much, damn japan is just confusing!
With which NEW motor you want, there are 2 or so options:
Option 1: Stay with D series (get another ZC)
Pros --> Cheap
Cons --> weak shitty motors. Less durability than a rice cracker, slightly harder to find, usually imported
Option 2: Go with B series (Id recommend an LS setup, b18a1/b1)
Pros --> Good torque, meant for your car, plentiful (more than a ZC)
Cons --> More expensive than option 1
Here is my guess:
You will need a new motor AND tranny. I'll assume you will do option 2 because that is what I would do. I'd recommend an LS motor, b18a1/b18b1, hydraulic, avoid cable transmissions.
Avoid b18c1/c5 because GSRs are too pricey and its simpler to just get an LS. If your car IS obd1, then get either a 92-93 B18A1 or 94-95 B18B1 since these are OBD1. If you get an OBD2 or OBD0, you will have to change some things around. Again, this really depends on your wiring schematic, I am going to guess its obd1 for the purpose of this post.
Get us a picture of your ecu and its code, this will let us know what you are running.
Other than motor+tranny, possibly a wiring harness (depending on the situation) and new axles. I doubt that b series and ZC axles are interchangable. Possibly shift linkage, throttle cable.... New motor mounts.... Again, if you stick with D series it will be more simple, but lame.... Ask me more questions if you'd like, im sort of just brisking and mumbling....
thanks alot for your advice man i really appreciate it, im gonna try and get a proper picture to post, id really luv to go with option 2 i miss the speed and reliability that i had with my 97 jetta ( i regret selling it now) how much do you estimate a b18a1 engine would cost?
thanks alot again

EDIT: Don't forget you can always sell your complete swap to others. Lots of people in civics still look for ZC swaps.

my setup is gsr tranny, stage 3 clutch 9 lbs flywheel and LS motor.
runs VERY AGGRESSIVE thats because of the clutch n tranny.
reliability is awesome. maintnence is cheap and runs beautiful .
anything less then an LS engiune/tranny in ur car and it isnt even worth having.
consider option 2 like he said.. ittl be worth it
else ull be lookin at these options again soon.
