88 CRX Mini me issues.
Im doing a mini me swap in my rex. the motor is a zc and the timing belt broke and bent valves. I picked up a y8 head and then just got a z6 distributor today. I tried to put the dizzy on, and the bolts are not lining up at all, whats the problem? do i need a y8 specific distributor? can i just bolt one side of it to secure it and run it like that?
What distributor are you trying to put on?
*** very important *** What ECU are you running?
The Y8 distributor shares the same bolt pattern as the the 88~91.
The Z6 is the oddball one.

B7 is non-vtec, right?
It will bolt up to the Y8 head, but you need to convert it to vtec internally.

^^Ok so I read that link and I guess I just didn't understand very well what that guy was trying to describe for grinding down to make it 180 degrees opposite so if you could elaborate a little so that we can understand a little better
i know its not correct, but i just used the regular TD-02 dizzy on my a6/z6, only has one bolt in it. but that doesnt mean do it, it will leak oil if you do im trying to get the z6 dizzy myself.
to use the regular 88-91 si dizzy on the z6 head, you have to drill out the top hole on the distributor, again not reccomended

The snail has 4 holes in it and is located at the bottom of the shaft.
The shaft is not round.
One side of the shaft is flat.
So, you take the snail off and grind sown the inside of the snail (area that slides over the shaft) so it can be flipped 180*.
Without grinding, it won't go on because it won't have clearance for the flat on the shaft.

so should i just get the y8 distributor and get the obd2-obd1 conversion harness for it? that sounds alot easier than grinding a bunch of stuff down and ripping apart distributors.
hmm well according to the write up that u sent me, I have the correct dizzy. It must be off a d15vtec cuz it bolts up and the snail has three holes. Just got lucky at the junkyard.
I don't know if the number of holes in the snail would define what distributor you have.
The casting number found on the distributor should tell you exactly what you have though.
And yes - getting a Y8 unit would be a lot easier.

its a td-41u. and the insides look exactly the same as the dizzy in the photo on the left(with the black snail w pin at the bottom that is circled and says its the vtec motors)
I don't know, but my guess is that they use most of the same parts to save money?
The difference is when you put it on the head - the cam will engage the distributor shaft 180* backwards.
