b16 tranny wont shift after rebuild
just rebuilt the tranny checked all clearences everything looks fine
but when i put the outer case on and close up the tranny The shift gear will not rotate right or left meaning I cannot place it in 1st, 2nd, 5th, or reverse gear.
has anyone ever had this problem before, or know why its doing that?

I actually did have the same problem but mine was only limited to 5th. It was really tough to shift into 5th about 50% of the time, the rest shifted fine. When it was bad I would really have to force it in. The second week after the rebuild, whatever was causing the issue "broke free" while I was driving and shifted into 5th. I heard a loud crack followed by a quick grinding sound. Haven't had a problem since. For me the damage is done, for you I'd recommend taking it all apart and finding out what the problem is before you ruin your newly rebuilt transmission.
If I remember correctly, below is the step that if done incorrectly, the gears won't shift properly. After this step (before installing the transmission housing) you can and should verify that the gears shift properly.
installed correctly its got me stomped ive done a few trannys and never had this issue sucks its my own shaft spins free with the case off close it and it does nothing cant move the shifter selecter or turn the shaft

It helps to make sure the shift selector is in neutral while installing the housing. I usually have someone hold the selector assembly while I check the gears and movement before I plop the housing on. Just my $.02

Take out the bolts with the ball and spring and see if the ***** are stuck in the bolts. I had this happen once because I over tightened them.
Also make sure the short rod on the shift change assembly is "locked" in the hole on the bottom of it.
I had this happen recently where it wouldn't shift no matter what I did. I ended up changing out the entire shift change assembly and it worked great. Good luck
