Default Differences between a b18c5 96-97 specs and b18c5 98+ specs?

Hello HT, yes I know this is a noob question but I'm new to honda and plan on buying a new motor. I heard about the b18c5 type r motor and that's the motor I want but like the question above, what's the differences between those two? Just want to know because if they don't have much differences then I rather go cheap and get the 96-97 specs. Well any answers will be thankful. And please if you just gonna come in here and talk trash, don't waste my time and yours.

biggest difference i think is the obd. the 96-97 will be obd2a and the 98+ will be obd2b. finding what obd your car is will make it easier cuz if your obd2b and buy a obd2a motor you'll have to convert it and then it wont be the cheaper motor in the long run

dont quote me i might be wrong with some of this. do some more searching on here all the info is on HT....somewhere lol

all he would need is an obd2a to obd2b jumper harness

00-01 cams are more agressive than the 97-98.
tranny has very slight differences in gear ratios.
00-01 have different intake valve springs.

The 98+ tranny if from Japan has an aggressive 4.785 final drive gear ratio

I don't know about the valve springs being different, never heard of that before

Other differences i can think of for jdm spec 00-01 models.......

- full stainless genuine 4-1 exhaust header with 2.5" outlet
- imitation carbon fiber spark plug cover
