Default 2000 Civic EX Breathing

I've been thinking about getting an intake for my 2000 Civic EX (D16Y8). I know that it'll increase power slightly, but it will also increase gas mileage too. I was thinking what if I just got an AEM filter and put that on the end of the snorkle?

in calculation more air = more fuel used.. may be more efficient this way but its not going to change your fuel mileage as much so as a header would. a chipped ecu with a conservative tune would give u better gas mileage then just slapping a intake on for the ecu to compensate for.

So I see. Thanks for the advice!

What about that K&N Lifetime filter that's made of metal mesh? If I cleaned it out every 3 weeks, for example, would that improve breathing?

If you have to get one just get a drop in filter. Any horsepower you gain you will not be able to feel anyway.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a "drop in filter"?

You'd be throwing your money in the garbage cleaning it every 3 weeks.

A drop in filter means it drops in to the factory box.
