Default 2000 CIVIC EX COUPE, BAD MPG...

HEY GUYS...I AM NEW TO THE SITE AND NEED SOME HELP, HOPE YOU GUYS CAN OFFER SOME ADVICE...

I HAVE A 2000 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE, ALL STOCK...ABOUT MONTH AGO I CHANGED MY FUEL FILTER...AND NOW I AM GETTING A LOT WORSE MPG...I USED AN AFTERMARKET FILTER, AND FROM THE DAY I REPLACED IT WAS WENT FROM 280/TANK TO 220/TANK...

THE CAR HAS 125K ON IT, BUT IT HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF...RECENT COMPLETE TUNE-UP AFTER THE FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGED...AND STILL THE BAD MPG...TUNE-UP I MEAN, PLUGS, WIRES, CAP, ROTOR, PCV, AIR FILTER, OIL CHANGE, TRANS AND RAD DRAIN AND FILLS...

...IT MAY SOUND NUTS, BUT CHANGING MY FUEL FILTER KILLED MY MPG...ANY THOUGHTS? SHOULD I TRY TO REPLACE WITH OEM? PLEASE LET ME KNOW, ANY ADVICE IS HELPFUL...THANKS

Hey Danny, I'm having the same problem. When I changed my fuel filter, my MPG dropped. I was told with the old filter maybe it was clogged and not using as much gas but now with a new filter were getting cleaner and more gas is flowing through so there for out MPG dropped. If that makes sense. Did you ever figure it out??? If so let me know what you did!

Sounds crazy it would just flow that much more gas. Did you use an OEM one? I am wondering if some flow more or have less filtering than others.

@moteg No I didn't use an oem one and that fits me thinking if that's the problem. But a filter is a filter right?? Why would it drop MPG??

I have always used OEM and never had a problem, I hate to say this maybe you should swap it for an OEM, I am thinking the non oem flows differently, maybe more fuel and less filtering, using more? That is a guess.
