I got a problem. 2000 s2000, oem cd player, audio controls don't work?
The only thing that works is the mute button. Other than that it doesn't do anything. Any ideas?
Thanks.

You must explain more, does the radio screen come on? are you receiving sound from the speakers/tweeters? If you where to attempt to put in a cd does it accept or reject it?

My mistake should of been more clear. The cd player itself functions fine. It's the audio controls on the dash that aren't functioning, aside from the mute button. The volume, channel, etc buttons don't work.
I'm reading about this modifry adapter but I'm hearing that it's not necessary to have using an oem radio. I'm puzzled.

I actually purchased the car with the radio installed. I pulled out the radio and I checked the plugs and everything seemed connected fine. One thing is that it seems like a plug was wired into the existing harness. So you might be correct that the previous owner had an aftermarket radio installed. Added to the fact that I found reminisce of a sub wiring.
Best bet... buy a bluetooth enabled deck. Install. stream music from your cellphone or plug a usb flash drive and smile.

the radio controls on the left are good for connecting a garage door opener to.

However the audio controls as a garage door opener, you can do that!? That definitely intrigues me, mind elaborating on this?

I usually leave my stereo door closed except to adjust volume.

Some will use the high beams to activate the remote (aka, flash to pass). It's something motorcyclists do so they don't have to reach into their pockets for the remote, just pull the flash to pass switch to activate the garage (or gate).
Could be the headunit is bad, those headunits are nothing special and you can get an aftermarket unit that is not over the top looking, but you can just close the door anyway.
Get a good aftermarket head unit and the Modifry DCI and Plug and Play harness (www.modifry.com). Make sure the headunit you get has connectivity for a iPod/iPhone or mp3 player and get rid of the OEM P.O.S. You solve your CD problem and you gain other ways to listen to your music.
Check the green wire with red stripe in the factory HU harness. This is the single wire that relays the controls from the dash to the HU. You may want to check the resistance on this wire with a DVOM to make sure you are seeing varying resistances when pushing each button.
Also check the pin connectors in the harness are straight and not broken.
PS- the modifry unit will not help you with the stock radio.

Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated. And I will definitely look into what you mentioned Rtzx9r, thank you.
I started shopping around for an aftermarket headunit when I got locked out of my radio (didn't have the code). But fortunately I was able to get the code which prompted me to look into the controls. Took it apart to see what is going on. My goodness I should have taken pictures, it was like some rocket scientist took a stab at it. Had wires soldered each button with each wire connected to a resistor then all to a green/red (I think) at the plug. Pretty darn interesting. Managed to get the volume control, channel, and the mute button to work. Just the mode button doesn't work still. I really should have taken a picture. It was quite the work of art. -_-
I just have a liking to the stock, streamline look with the stock radio whether or not the door is closed. The subtle lights that aren't too bright is the main factor. I drive at night a lot and a bright radio has always bothered me. Plus I like it to just look simple. I just may be thick headed though, lol. I'm now looking to wire up amps and a sub with the stock radio.
Just incase anyone is interested, I'm looking at using a box like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-S2000-...ht_2289wt_1020
It's pretty cheap, don't know how well it works, but it's pretty clean. I'm still on the hunt for a cleaner looking box though. Would like something where the sub is recessed more and I could put like a mesh screen to sit flush up top. I'm probably asking for too much though for a production box.

Metra does make an integration piece now that will allow you to pick from just about any aftermarket radio available and program the dash controls to work the radio. I just recently did this in mine with a nice Kenwood Excelon radio. The new radio will play iPod directly, has nice pre-amp connections for amplifiers (F, R, and Sub) and even has an custom programmable color option so that every light on the face of the radio can be made whatever color you want. I made mine amber and it matches the dash at night perfectly. Just giving you some options... as that the factory radio is not the best thing to use if you want to install an amplifier in your car.

I like it. Definitely get better thump out of the single 10" than I did with the two 8" subs I had before. Amp is mounted behind the trunk lining kinda where the spare tire is but to the left of that. I'm not really sure as I had someone else install it.
