srs repair/ coil spring replacement?
i have a 97 honda accord lx 5-speed. a few months ago my steering wheel made a loud clicking noise when turning and would try to lock up on me at times. after a few weeks it stopped and my SRS light came on. after some reaseach i found out that my coil spring in the steering wheel may have uncoil or needs to be replaced. i have found some replacement srs coil springs on ebay that go into the steering wheel, but have no idea how to change it or if i need to also remove the srs computer under the dash on the drivers side kick pannel and have the code erase? can some one help me out or point me in the right direction?
A good shop manual will give you the proper procedure. Most important thing is making sure the SRS is disabled -don't want/need a face full of air bag. Pretty straight forward from there.....using the 94 manual I have.
I had a car do this, rewound the spring and ribbon cable for the wheel controls myself and it was sweet again. Generally code erase will not work by removing the SRS ecu or battery and there is a clearing procedure, on toyota it's "playing the drums" bmw it's something else, honda it's something....you get the idea. Not entirely sure but I believe on the hondas it is also a series of touching wires to ground in sequence. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
