5w30, you're going to get a wide spectrum of answers for brand of oil and filter. Get whats on sale. As long as you change the oil in proper mileage intervals you'll be OK. Purolator filter or Honda if you don't want to spend a lot of money.
Thread titles MUST summarize the tech problem (be topic specific) so that members browsing titles can understand the problem without reading the post. Title edited.
For the filter, I recommend the Purolator PureONE. It's like $6. Don't waste your money on the K&N or Mobil filters. The PureONE is the closest to factory filtering material (if not the same). If you Google around you'll see that some people have cut open dozens of oil filters and the PureONE are the best (after OEM).
Good luck with your oil change.

On my 97 it likes to drink mobil 1 but then I had a stripped out valve cover bolt and the oil pan gasket leaked some so I have an oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket set and new valve cover bolts on order, I just went through 1 1/2 qts in 2000 miles and that was running their 10w30 high mileage oil. and that is even better than when I ran their regular 5w30 synthetic.
I have just installed heli-coils in all 5 of the valve cover bolt holes so just waiting on the rest of the new parts to arrive to put everything back together again.
The 99 that I have is running 5w30 castrol syntec full synthetic and a pure one filter and I've gone 2000 miles and hasn't used a drop of oil but then it has all new seals and gaskets with the exception of the rear main which will get done when I replace the clutch.
both are y5's, the 97 has 190k and the 99 has 211k miles.
