Default do spark plugs NEED to be removed for valve lash?

Why would they? I am just wondering. Planning on doing a huge valve lash with some friends, and one of them has a seized plug. Thanks!

nope, it just eases turning over the engine by hand

Wicked, thanks for the midnight reply. How does the spark plug increase turning the engine over? Just wondering! I can't visualize this =S

its because as your engine enters the compression stroke of the combustion cycle the valves are closed so you are pressurizing air and fuel or in your case just air... it gives u a lot of resistance so taking out the sparkplugs allows that air that normally would be compressed to escape out the spark plug hole making it easier to rotate the assembly

make sure the engine is stone cold, or it can affect your measurements

Removing the plugs gives you an excuse to look them over, so you might as well take them out, especially because it makes it significantly easier to rotate the engine and spark plugs aren't exactly hard to remove.

Thanks for the tip. Although that isn't really why I was asking. Friend had a crossthreaded plug but needs a lash adjustment, I figured I'd make sure
