I have a 91 crx si, I owned it for about 2 days and well...I believe an intake valve broke off and is in my #1 cylinder. So I have the intake manifold off, the distributor off, the rails, the cams, and now I'm down to the last 10 bolts and there I'm having problems. I've been using a 14mm socket and it fits right but it feels like im stripping the head (Dear god hopefully not) all of them are doing this and I dont know what to do or where to go. If anybody has any knowledge on this please let me know, I'd love to drive my car again.
Are you using deep sockets? And you have to take the bolts off in a certain order from the outside in (reverse when installing). Google the torque pattern for your head.
You can't really strip the threads by removing the bolts.
Now, if you were tightening them it would be a different story.
Make sure you are using a 6 point socket and not a 12 point.

I tried using a 6 point deep socket and thanks for the lesson of which way to turn the bolt...lol. No see whats going on is i can't loosen any of them AT ALL, the socket jumps on the head of the bolt and I'm afraid of doing it anymore before I make this all much much worse

You need to press down with one hand and pull the bar with the other... If you can't swing it, use a impact wrench. You keep that up, I hope you like giant over-sized paper weights...
if there not arp (or similar) you shouldnt reuse them anyway.your NOT going to break a head stud taking it off, just use a breaker bar. if im wrong about not being able to break the stud upon removal someone chime in but i cant see it happening before it breaks free.
I had to use a lot more than the recommended tightening torque to remove the head bolts last week. Only just managed with a 2 foot breaker bar. Make sure you have the correct size socket - 14mm - and just go for it. Expect some unsettling noises as the thread lets go.
I used this http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=532381_0_0_ to get my head bolts off and I it worked great and just make sure you get the shavings from falling into the head
So in other words you were using a 6-point socket... why did you call them bolts if they were clearly ARP studs? A bad description always leads to improper diagnosis...
why you giving him a hard time about it. clearly he didnt know they were arp studs. and glad to hear that you got them off

I'm new to these types of motors, normally im into the bigger chevys or small motors like quads and ****, I appreciate your help, but I'd rather you not post on my **** if your going to be negative towards me like that. Thanks again everybody, I've got her completely torn down and forged guts are going in, im not screwing around with that.
Interesting - I am pretty much strictly a Chevy guy myself... I still know an ARP stud/bolt when I see one. I LOVE when people get on here and say they can't figure anything out/ are used to working on domestics... the same exact basic principles apply... oh well have fun, I'll leave you alone.
