this thing had head gasket blowing issues from what i was told. the head was completely redone after the second gasket went but then it blew the gasket again 500 miles later. i couldn't tell that the gasket was blown. so i took a **** ton of pics hoping maybe someone could point it out. some pics are doubled up but only because i took pics with and without the flash on. my only guess is the block deck isn't flat. but if it wasn't a head gasket what else would cause the milk shake this thing had?

 

oh and how the hell do you get the timing belt pulley off the damn crank?

 

Were you running a lot or water in the cooling system?

 

Wasn't my motor. It was in a guys car. He had the gasket replaced 3 times and finally had Honda replace it. I got the motor from the guy that did the job at Honda.

 

But there was a lot of green antifreeze in the oil pump and in the motor along with the milk shake.

 

If head gaskets keep blowing then there's obviously sealing issues. But i also recall a number of F23 blocks for a certain year that apparently had a casting flaw where a water jacket was too thin or something that would eventually lead to it leaking.

 

this block is an 01. do you recall where you got the info?

 

From what I could tell The block issue let's oil into the water. Due to the oil having more pressure. So I'm not sure if this is the problem I have. I'm hoping it's just a deck issue. That can be solved when it's sleeved.

presure check the head, check the deck and head for warpage

 

I dont have the link or anything, but iv seen it a few times on the accord forum over the years. And that makes more sense since oil is under more pressure so that may not be the cause. Just trying to shoot you a POSSIBLE cause of the problem.

the head was decked and completely gone through. either way, i'm not using it. h22 head is going on. but i am going to check the block deck.

i think the gasket was right side up. that was my first thought as well. hopefully i'll get lucky and sleeving it will cure the issue. hopefully they NDI the block before they waste time sleeving it. do factory head bolts have 12 or 6 point heads? these were 12 point.

Stop wasting time taking pictures and just get the damn flatness checked. Wait, let me break out my internet feeler gauge. Yup, it's straight. Never mind. Hope that helped.

Aight dick, it's not really wasting time taking pics when your taking pics during the tear down. I posted the pics to see if some one could show me a tell tail sign of where water was enteringthe oil. Also the point of the thread was to find out how else water can get into the oil if it wasn't a head gasket issue.

That being said, a .002 feeler will fit below a striaght edge between cyl 3& 4. And a .0015 will fit between cyl 1&2 and 2&3. But that's it everything else seems striaght. So again is there any other way water can get into the oil. Can th deck be flexing after it's bolted up? Has any key else had issues with water in oil but no head gasket leak? All the pistons had plenty of carbon build up, so I don't think any water was getting into the cylinders.

 

How much pressure would the cooling system have to make to squeeze it way through a head gasket and into an oil drain? I ask cause it looks like this guys cooling system was fubar'd. There is this sandy looking junk everywhere. No oil just sandy crap like what was on the pump. I wonder if it was having over heating issues but he didn't see it do to bad flow around the sensor. Or a bad sensor. And maybe the cap was bad and the thermostat was gunked up cause high pressures and heat warpage.

 

MAKE SURE YOU THE BLOCK IS NOT WARPED. i have a f22 and a h22 that the block warped from the deck to the mains. I have no idea how this happens to a block.I have built alot of engine and f/h series are the only ones i have seen like this.Take the striaght edge lay across the mains journals with the bearings out and see if a .001 feeler will go under it. If it does you have to have the block line bored.

I have to figure out how to get the damn timing gear off first. It seems to be stuck on there

 

i know its been awhile, but the deck on the block is really ruff. like catches your finger nail all the way around. and not just kinda catches it its like a file. so my guess is the deck is too ruff and is why the gasket kept popping. does this sound like a good poisbility.
