Default DIY: Ghetto Magnesium blue

I wanted buy magnesium blue rims but, I just bought a new house so I have no cash. I searched high and low for some way replicate the color but, most people who found a way to match the color shade kept their finding secret. I thought about powder coating but, it would more than half what these rotas cost me so, I decided to go the cheap route for now.

you will need

1x black paint (I used black trim paint because it give a even flat black)
1x metallic blue (I used Rustoleum Cobalt blue metallic, It is ridiculously metallic so, it was perfect)
1x dark blue (I used Royal Blue, It helps give it a different blue shade color and slight purple hue)
2x Clear coat

1. apply a nice even black coat and let it dry

2. apply a mist coat of the metallic blue paint aka a very light spray for a distance

3. apply a single heavy coat of royal blue before the metallic coat dries (it should look like a primer blue when applied)

4. apply mist coat of metallic blue AND a mist coat of black at a far distance (this will dark the color and also apply another layer of metallic flakes) it should look like a navy blue metallic

5.apply the clear coat (you will need at least 3 coats to get the right shade mag blue give in low light conditions. This is one coat.

5b. This is 3 coats.

FINISHED PRODUCT. Sorry no on the car pics yet, I'm still not done with the car. Complete photos should be 2 weeks from now. Ignore the red lugs, i will be getting gold lugs to match the trik tops crowns.

so were you purposely trying to have a nice combination of dirt and over spray on your inner wheel?

also, why do people insist on faking something that really isnt. fck it, im gonna go by a brolex..

Doesn't really look like magnesium blue to me. But, that's not to say they look bad. Looks good to me, just not close to what you were describing..

They look good for a low buck attempt at mag blue (wich I feel is overhyped)

for choosing a house over some fancy wheels

after having them in the daylight, I will concede that it doesn't look mag blue in the light (too much blue flake opposed to silver flake) but it the shade it looks pretty close given that its a spray can job. Either way, im pretty happy with it and I have received some really nice compliments in the few day i have had them.
