flashing oil light in my R
so this morning as i was pulling away from house i had a flashing oil light. immediately turned around and switched cars to go to work. didnt get a chance to check oil level. past few days i have noticed a power loss when i down shift to pass someone. feels as if i hit the brakes and let off quickly. car is a 98 R, about 193K, stock motor. i dont notice any oil burning, has oil pan gasket replaced more than a year ago. possible oil pump going bad if the oil level is good? gonna check the level when i get home tonight. any suggestions to troubleshoot would be great! thanks!

I had the same problem. It was my pump. Thank god I also had an oil pressure guage which showed the oil pressure very low. Put new pump on, problem was fixed.
I'm not 100% postive, but I do feel like that is one of the tail tell signs of oil pump failure. (This is the very very nice sign that tells you it may be failing. I would head any potential warning if you get my drift)

Yea, the oil strainer can def. get clogged. Same issue I had with mines, I forgot to mention that. It was caused by Oil filter coming apart (k&n). That caused my pump to go bad. So I put a new oil pickup and pump. Not that hard to do took me about 4 hours to take down oil pan remove pump and then put the new parts on.
It doesnt flash based on how much oil you have, it only flashes when your oil pressure goes low....which is usually when you have NO oil at all. If the pressure goes dead then you have about 5 seconds to turn the motor off before you trash bearings.
UPDATE: oil level was extremely low. dropped out the old stuff, and this time the filter was a beeyotch to take out, not sure why. but put new oil in and new filter and im hittin vtec all day long!!! LOL! I thought I could get away with stretching my oil changed to 7500miles from 5000. Nah, I dont think so!
