grinds going into 3rd
looking for any help cause my prelude si grinds going into 3rd gear at high rpm's. the transmission is a jdm m2a4. are they prone to doing this?? any help would be great. thanks
Typical issue in Prelude transmissions. How long has it been grinding, miles on the trans that you know of? Typically going to need to replace the 3-4 sleeve set(sleeve, center hub, 3-4 synchros and synchro springs). Depending on amount of damage you may need a 3rd gear as well.

Gonna depend on whether you are going to perform the work or have a shop do all the work. You will have R&R time on getting the trans out and back in plus time for the repairs. That usually averages 200-300 for R&R and whatever extra time for the repairs...of course depending on shop, location etc.
I will PM you some prices on the parts you may possibly need.

Before you go spending all that money...I have something cheap and easy to try. Just change out all the fluids in the trans. When you fill it back up top it off with marvels mystery oil (it comes in a red bottle from any autoparts store). Use no more than 1/3rd of the bottle (1/3 rd quart.). I use about 1/6th of the bottle and in about 2 days of daily driving the problem goes away. Once the noise goes away re-drain and change fluid and do the same thing over again. I had the same issue in a few of my cars and using this worked 75% of the time. Good luck
