Default Prelude Synchro

Ok, I am going to install my Quaife. I my third gear synchro is messed up. So I was going to go ahead and replace it. I have been ordering all my parts from Majestic Honda . But I cant find just the synchros. Can I just buy the synchros and replace them or do I have to buy the whole gear set. Does any one know where I could get just the synchros?? Please help.

I am also very curious about this... My 3rd gear synchro is starting to go... ISNT it always 3rd... I was wondering if its an easy replacement job or what... Anyone have a how to or a guess of difficulty and installation time... I think I will replace mine soon before I tear my gear up... Occasionally when riding it hard I hear the grinding going on... Well kinda, its at the point where its not smooth speed shifting at any rpm.... High ones tend to be easier ot shift at though.. Just a sec lapse also leaves no problem.. Give us some heads up on where to get them and if we should have any problems doing it ourselves..

Yup, its my 3rd gear too thats messed up. Like I said I see the synchros at Majestic Honda, but its in the whole gear set package. Hopefully someone can tell us if it is possible to get just the synchros somewhere.

heh my 5th here. If the rpm's are up decent and i tried to shift into it.. it grinds, I kinda just have to "guide" it into gear, I can't really push

HAHA, my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are fugged! I guess that is what roadracing on a old tranny will do.. I'm ordering parts from Majestic I think next week.. Just play it save, and get the whole gear set while you have the tranny out.

Thats probably what I will end up doing, but I was trying to avoid that, I just want to get the synchro and replace that. Just wanted to check honda-tech just in case someone knows where I can just get the synchro.

I'm interested too....4th gen w/ grinding 5th and sometimes 4th
When looking through their site for rebuild parts, i had 2 questions:
#1 - which transmission type are we, KM5T, or whatever?!
#2 - when looking at parts like pistons, is it around $40 for a set of 4?

you can by the synchros individialy but this is how it works at the dealer

1st and 2nd gear synchros are a set

i belive 3rd is by itslef and so is 4th but (dont quote me on that) someone correct me

and 5th and reverse is a set.

synchros are a grip and most everyone on here has 3rd grinding .from wat i know that on my car my 3rd only grinds only when shifting at high REV . from wat i know prelude tranny are not made to rev that high thats why somtimes it is hard to shift into gears because of the high rev

prelude SH trannys really suck because they can only handle bout 250 hp thats about it.

Does any one have part numbers for this or cost? I am sure they are pricey (i would think in the 150-200 range but no more since the whole gear set is around $310 at the dealer) I swear some of the Honda parts counters here in town are clueless. I did ask at two dealerships in the past week and got the same answer at both (have to order gearsets). I know honda makes and sells the synchro sets since I have seen pictures of ITR synchros over in the ITR forum.

Only reason I am bringing this back from the dead is due to the fact I have a spare h22 transmision laying around that only needs synchros.

So is every one just replacing their transmission or what? (lame attempt at a bump)

I have been told that the oem parts counters have a book that list these part numbers and that they can not be found in the typical computer lookup that most the parts counter monkeys use. I will investigate this at all the local honda dealers i can think of this weekend. Supposedly I read the going rate is around $90 a synchro. However having found they are sold in sets I am not sure if this is for one set or per synchro in each set. If its 90 per synchro in each set (unlikely since a used tranny would be much cheaper if thats the case.)

Hopefully I can find out for sure this weekend

Here is what i have found.

http://www.drivetrain.com/hond....html

That should be just the Syncros. Now i don't beleave that they are HONDA parts... But the set is only like $100.
If you do a search on Syncros... there is a guy saying that he can get just a set... I think that it was on the ITR forum... Good luck
