Default Methods to stop coolant leak from water pump weep hole

94 Honda Accord LX 5 speed manual 4 cylinder non VTEC has air conditioning

I recently did an oil and filter change using hydrallic jack to raise car under cross beam under the engine

The next day car driven developed a small drip leak of antifreeze from weep hole of water pump that occurs after car warmed up, and drips for a few minutes after car parked and turned off.

The water pump makes no noticable noise.

Has happened subsequently in same manner every time I drive the car, leak so small not had to add any coolant

Wondering if I jarred the car and water pump when raising or lowering the car resulting in breaking the seal in the water pump, or loosening the bolts on the water pump. I am not wanting to replace the water pump, so maybe I could just take off the top part of the timing belt cover and tighten down the bolts on the water pump and hopefully stop this leak. Am I making sense??????

I am trying to find an inexpensive fix for this problem

If it's leaking from the weep hole the internal seal has gone bad

There is no bolt that can be tightened to stop an internal seal leak in the water pump. Replacement is really the best option.

Exactly right. Time to change the pump out. While your at it, you might want to consider replacing the timing and balancer belts while you're in there. You can buy a complete set including both belts, tensioners, seals and water pump, gaskets etc.. for about $110. It's only going to get worse and spray coolant all over everything.

110 dollars?! WHERE?! I've been checking all around for a timing belt kit and another HT member who works at a dealer quoted me 330 dollars for the whole kit. Granted my car is the 99 accord v6. Is it that big of a price difference?

I bought mine at Advance auto parts for a 4 cyl for 110.00. STOP trying to buy parts at dealers. Try Napa or Orielys.

Here's the kit foryour car (1999 Accord). I assumed it was a EX V6 but never the less $330 is more than double as you can see. It's the same as for my F22B2, $105

I spoke to a long time Honda mechanic told me small leak from water pump weep hole is normal, not to worry about it since water pump not making any noise either.

Same info in Honda shop manual.

Therefore, since I do not drive this car far or often and my lack of money for this matter, I am delaying this repair.

Hmmmm, that just doesn't sound right to me. Whenever a water pump starts to weep its only going to get worse and eventually start spraying coolant all over the place and after that (and worse) overheat the motor. I'm sorry to be obtuse but it is NOT normal for your waterpump to leak coolant under any circumstances. The fact that the pump is not making noise is meaningless.

Actually small amount of coolant from the weep hole, even when brand new, is normal. However, a stream of coolant leaving a puddle is not considered normal weeping. That is excessive and will require replacement. If the op is vigilant and keeps an eye on his coolant temps and level he should be OK for a while.

Hopefully he practices due diligence and puts a collection bucket under his car when ever he parks. Because we all know how F#@king annoying those people are who knowingly leak coolant all over the place.

dont sound right but maybe gates is just doing a cya due to recent rumored quality probs:

A small amount of coolant leaking from the weep hole is normal. Small drips are OK. Longer streams or continuous leaking may indicate a problem. OE manufacturers developed the weep chamber as a way to hide the small drips so pumps are not prematurely determined to be failing. Those drips will remain in the chamber and evaporate as the engine heats up.

Buy the water pump at least from the honda dealer. The aftermarket are crap. You don't want to re-do this. Use a proper torque wrench and torque the bolts to spec.

8 years later, I bet he got it fixed already.

Incase he didn't, or for anybody else shopping for cheap waterpump amazon or rockauto.com has $30 Aisin or Beck Arnley.

I recently took my 1990 Honda Accord to mechanic due to coolant leaking badly around timing belt area. which to me seemed to be the weep hole He did a pressure test and came back and said either head gasket or engine block crack. Would a would a bad water pump leaking coolant out of people causee my engine to fail pressure test?
